Hi Pauline,
Could you please look for one Lewis Harries b.1797
according to the 1861 census. On the IGI there is no trace of him being born
in Llangendeirne. He married Mary Richards 13th April 1821 in Llangendeirne.
Tomorrow (Thurs) Monica and myself are off to Ayr, North Qld, dad's younger
brother Hugh is celebrating his 60th wedding anniversary.
Summers coming, it hit 41c the day before yesterday, and at century zinc
north of here it got to 47c.

Hi Jackie
Nice to hear from you again.....
What do you mean when you said it stated George Jones for Amy.......fathers
names were not given on the certificate, or was that the name of the
witness.......sometimes the witnesses are not even friends or family but a
parish clerk.....just to put the damper on things!!!
I have looked through Meidrim again and cannot find her, there are a few
Amy's there at that time.....this one could be Amy Jones...
1793 9th Dec Meidrim parish church
Amy dau Thomas John and Hannah his wife....
which census do you have her in.......I know its a blow when we cannot find
anything....wonder if she is in an adjacent parish?
speak soon Pauline

Hi Pauline & List,
You have helped me a lot in the past Pauline, & lately I haven't been in contact, as I really dont know where else to check.
My 3 xgreat grandma Amy EVANS, was married to Thomas Lewis at Llanegwad church in 1823.
I cannot prove that the names listed are parents or witnesses.
HIS father I'm sure, as it was same name ,Thomas Lewis, but for Amy it said George Jones.
I realise this could also be a stepfather.
Anyway, Amy was born in Meidrim, Carm.according to census.approx, 1794.
She died at Alltarddu,[Cil-Arddu?] buried Llanegwad church Oct 14th 1874 aged 80.
A family letter confirms she was born at Meidrim, at a farm called "Pantglas"
I have tried to find out more about this farm, even to visiting & photographing the now derelict cottage, & speaking to present owner,in new bungalow, no luck.
Amy is now my biggest brickwall to overcome.
Richard checked Meidrim church for baptism for me to no avail.
So this is my last chance at finding Amy's parents, & siblings if any, as I am about to give up on her, let her rest in peace.
Unless, someone can come up with something to boost my flagging interest?
Regards Jackie.
This name seems to occur more commonly than one would think in Welsh
Listings. It appears as surname and as a first name. Anyone out there who can supply
any background on this. Thanks Bill
Hi Pauline,
This was interesting! When I was in Aberystwyth this summer - and also at
the CRO - I got a chance to spend a fair amount of time looking over the St.
Ishmael's records. Before about 1750 they were all in Latin (including
hilarious Latinizing of Welsh names!). The Latin versions of the records
included 'spurius' and 'spuria' for the illegitimate sons and daughters,
respectively. Between about 1750 and 1810 in St. Ishmael's they went to an
English-Latin hybrid - English names, but still the Vicar's judgmental
'spurius' and 'spuria'. After they went to English-only in the St.
Ishmael's records, there were still modifiers like 'reputed' and 'alleged'
to describe the parentage ...
Regards,
Jim Joseph

Hi Mary
Glad that you are back on line.......
I can go back with my Davies to late 1790's, but the records are rather
sketchy for a few years, so unsure if the David Davies/David I need was
there.......
I do have an unusual name, BUT, the John Harwood who was born in Swansea
1861 still eludes me........that was a new name to the area as they hailed
from Kent....!!
It's just a matter if they wanted to be found........

Hi Pauline
Many thanks for your concern. Thankfully everything is now back to normal and
I am once more thoroughly engrossed in everyone's e-mails.
Can sympathise with the problems with the Davies families. I have one of my
own. Have come to a complete stop with my g grandparents,John and Mary Davies.
It doesn't help that Mary's maiden name was Jones and her place of birth was
given as Carmarthen.
Oh for some unusual surnames!!

Hi Judy
Many thanks for your suggestion re AOL and breakdown in mail. Everything is
now restored. However, I wasn't getting any e-mail other than one spam. Have

Hello Pauline.
The message below, following up on Jayne's message of 09.18, says "thanks for that". Does that mean you already replied to the first message? If so, lucky Jayne, BUT I have not seen your reply - so where did it go ? The reason I ask is because I am seeing very little on this list these days, and I wonder if there is a glitch.

Hi Pauline
Thanks for that. Yes I have Daniel and his brother Thomas both in Llangadock
in 1851. I have not looked for John Thomas in either Llandeilo or Llangadock
as this seemed to be too much of a mammoth task.

Hi,
I presume that although we are not receiving all letters, they will be in the
archives and may still be read. However, on looking, I do not have this URL
so perhaps Pauline would be kind enough to put it on the list whilst we can
still get it.
Cheers

Hi Pauline
All I know about John Thomas was that he was born in Llandeilo (Capel Isaac)
in April of 1811. I do not know whether he also moved to Llangadock.

Hi
Daniel Davies, my g.g.grandfather, was born in Llandeilo in 1808 - this is
consistent from all census returns (1841-1981 Llangadock). He married Mary
Lewis in 1836 in Llangadock as was said to be 'of this parish'. I know he had a
brother called Thomas Davies who was born in 1817 and from the marriage
certificate of Thomas (luckily Daniel was a witness) I have the name of the father
Thomas Davies. From chapel records of Capel Issac I have found the christening
of a Daniel Davies son of Thomas Davies who lived in Bwlch (presumably the
name of a farm). From this source I also found another brother, John born 1811.
The mother's name is not mentioned.
My request, do you have access to marriage records from say 1800 - 1808 for
Llandeilo? If so how many Thomas Davies's are there? and how could I ever sort
them out. The only other piece of information is the place name Bwlch. Any
ideas appreciated.
Thanks
Jayne
Hi Rhodri
All list subscribers and bounced mail is now coming to my computer, as I
have taken over the realm (still learning how to sub/unsub/block etc).....at
one stage even my name with btinternet was included......
AOL and Tiscali are acting up
to check if you are a subscriber go to
http://passwordcentral.rootsweb.com
or the AOL Help Desk
AOL users can ask for information at
http://postmaster.info.aol.com
The volumn of email users at AOL seems to be clogging the system up........
It's just a matter of riding it out again.......we do have another list on
british genealogy if anyone is interested of subscribing....
