Janie, maybe I'm not so badly off after all (weatherwise, that is). It's
just that when it gets into the 40's F. here, it's cold for us. I don't know
what I'd do with a howling north wind - not leave the house until Spring!!!

Pauline...It is much appreciated that site allows us Yanks to trace our Roots
from Wales to the States and back. It seems that our ancestors moved
throughout the country when they came here. Perhaps we can reciprocate when
there are some deadends to some familuies after they left Wales. Thanks again
Bill.
Hi, Pauline!
It's chilly and overcast here in south Texas today. We could use a little
sunshine - if you have some, send it over!
Meidrim - apparently, there's a chapel there named Ffynnonbedr Chapel.
Someone I know is looking for the birth/christening of Amy Evans at Meidrim
about 1790-1800 and I'm wondering if the record would be with this chapel.
They found her marriage, burial and christenings of her children at
Llanegwad. It's believed that Amy was born at Pantglas Farm, Meidrim. She
married Thomas Lewis at Llanegwad in 1823 and was buried there in 1874.
If anyone out there can find Amy's birth/christening record, I'd appreciate
it. We'd like to know the identity of her parents and siblings.
Thanks!

HI Janie
I have many books on Llanelli, but the only one that I could find in the
index was in 'Old Llanelly' by John Innes....
Llanlly Toll Gates/Turnpikes
From a county list dated May 1846 the following is taken, but the gates
were not always in these spots:
Llandafen Gate clears Llanelly Furnace Sandy and Tyryfran Gates and
Velinvoel Bar. On the Swansea Road almost at the foot of the hill
before reaching the Dafen Brook, on the left leaving Llanelly.
Llanelly Furnace Gates clear Llandafan, Llanon, Pontyates, Sandy,
Spudders Bridge and Tyryfran Gates and Felinfoel Bar. At the junction
of the cross road there S E side.
Sandy Gate clears Llandafen, Llanelly Furnace, Llanon, Pontyates
Spudders bridge and Tyryfan Gates and Velinvoel Bar. Site now covered
with Mynydd Mawr bridge, Pembrey Road embankment near the lower end of
the north side going west.
Tyryfran Gate clears Llandafan, Llanelly Furnace, Llanon, Pontyates,
Sandy and Spudders Bridge Gates and Velinfoel Bar. At the top of Mount
Pleasant
Velinfoel Bar clears Llandafen, Llanelly Furnace, Llanon, Sandy and
Tyryfran Gates. Near Westfa Gate.
At each 'gate' was a huge sign-board painted white, on which were
lettered the charges lawfully payable for carriages of all kinds,
horses, cattle, sheep, pigs - quite a long list. The gates were closed
during the night, and the validity of the toll-ticket ceased at
midnight.
The New Road and Hall Street were made about 1829, the now Pembrey road
being a mere parish road as far as Sandy. The Carmarthen Road from
Furnace to the top of Buckleys Lane is called 'new' in the maps of 1800.
till which year the upper part of Buckleys Lane was the highway. The
old way to Pembrey was along Stradey Road, From Cwmbach through Stradey
to Pwll.

To know more about the toll gates the book to read is 'And they Blessed
Rebecca' an account of the Welsh Toll-gate riots 1839-1844 by Pat
Molloy.

Hi Everyone,
I've gotten help about Llanelly but am now moving to another part of
Carmarthenshire. Is anyone doing research in Kidwelly? I have the
marriage date of December 23, 1814 for William Eynon and Elizabeth Thomas
in Kidwelly but not any names for her parents. William Eynon's parents
were William Eynon and Catherine but I don't have any birthdates or
places or marriage date for them. I am hoping to find any of this
information plus a definite birthdate for Elizabeth Thomas and her
parents' names. William Eynon, the son, was christened 26 Feb 1785 in
Kidwelly and Elizabeth Thomas, about 1789.
Well, it's time to go out on a rainy day in Idaho and get some groceries
bought. Thanks again for anyone who can help.

Hi,
I think someone out there was looking for Spring Gardens a little while back.
Don't know if you found the one you were looking for but I came across Spring
Gardens in the 1841 census of Carmarthen Town - ref. HO107/1387/4 ED12.
Hope this helps rather than confuses the issue!

This list seems an odd place to ask an Oklahoma question, but I see that a
couple of you may have some knowledge in this area.
I'd like to find an obituary for John R. Clark, who was a judge in Tulsa
1914-1916 (according to a book called The Founding of Stillwater [OK]). I'm
assuming he died there since he was born about 1856 in Ohio. Could someone
suggest a source for me?
Thanks,

Darla: I'm going to include links for you to the Tulsa City/County Library.
They have a fabulous research department. However, I found the reference to
this book on-line and it's a reference book only. However, they may be able
to look up the information you need and e-mail or give it to you by phone.
http://www.tulsalibrary.org/ and/or http://198.207.222.14/search/a?a. I
didn't find anything when I searched by name. Also, here is the link to the
Stillwater Public Library http://www.stillwater.lib.ok.us/, but apparently
you have to already have a library card to use the online reference. You
might e-mail them, tell them you're in Texas and see if they can help. If
neither of those things work, let me know and after February 15 I could go
to the library here and see if I can find anything if they haven't been able
to help. However, I've never stumped the Tulsa Public Library Reference
Dept. (Reminds me of that Katherine Hepburn, Spencer Tracy movie "Desk
Set". GREAT movie!!).

Dear Pauline,
Thanks for the helps on my continuing quest for information on the
marriage of Thomas Davies and Mary Eynon. I E-mailed the CRO and got a
very prompt reply but they could find no record. I am now in the
process of writing to the Registry Office in Llanelli. It's hard to
have to use the postal service when we get spoiled by the promptness of
e-mail.
Hope all is going well for all of you.

Hi Pauline,
I'll be back in Parc Myrddin on Friday to continue where I left off with
Margaret REES of Llanddarog.
I received a birth certificate today of Margaret Davies of Llanfyrnach b.Nov
1843 to parents John Davies and Hannah Richard.
The only Hannah Richard I have from the IGI that fits the bill is from
Llanfair Nant Gwyn, b.1805.
Would you have records of Llanfyrnach marriages?
I don't fancy tripping off to Pembrokeshire for my research, fifty miles to
Carmrthen is just about my limit.
I think your next task should be collecting data from the bordering parishes
surrounding Carmarthen, radiating outwards into Cardigan and Pembrokeshire
(starting with Llanfyrnach)
See you Friday

Hello Catrin
Re your question on children? You don't really mean Edward and Ivor do
you?
At 15 and 14 they are certainly not "children".
Normally you left school at 12 and started working - even my grandfather
did.
Although minors up to age 21 - until 1929 boys could get married at 14
and girls at 12 with consent of parents.
Cheers
Pat
