Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Hello Pauline,
just caught up with 197 emails !!!
That will teach me to read my emails every day & not disappear into the
garden or should that read wilderness.
Two things
1.Unless you have found any CLEMENTS in Wern 1861 & 1871 don't trouble
yourself any more ,I understand now that it will involve quite a bit of work
for you which provided I'm patient I will be able to do myself when the CD's
arrive. So thankyou for the your efforts so far.
2.I notice in a recent email you wrote the bit below............Well there
are programmes you can buy (they are in about their 3rd or 4th generation
now)where you speak clearly into a microphone & it converts into type. I
think one of them is called "Viacom 2001".
Computers advancing quickly, is an understatement I think.
Everything computerwise is advancing so quickly - it's hard to keep up with
> what can be achieved next!! Hopefully talking to the computer and it will
> type for us...
Best Wishes,
Paul (Soggy no more
Somerset).
Robert Williams, noting the name Samuel Clment, mentioned in you E-mail, did
you, or have you, considered that one of your clan might have been the
American writer and humo(u)rist "Mark Twain", real name Samuel Langhorne
Clements?

Just wanted to wish a very Happy Easter holiday to Pauline and Richard and
all who are on the CARM list. I hope you have a lovely spring weekend over
there!
Darla
The Woodlands, Texas, USA
Hello
If anyone has any questions they would like to have answered now is the
time.....
It is Easter and there is a long weekend break - I myself do not venture
into the traffic - although if the weather stays nice we will not be able to
access Pembrey area, what with the country park, Burry Port Harbour and of
course the large traffic jams which have been caused on this road in various
places (Llanelli to Pembrey) due to a new roundabout being created to assist
the Queens visit in June......
Look at the website to see what information we can assist with.....
We hope that everyone is making use of the Pembs and Cards marriages 1813-37
available on line in an easy to use database.....
Happy Easter Everyone
regards
Pauline James

Just to let you know that I hve been browsing Carmsfhs webpages today (don't
look very often) and have noticed that people ask where various question
i.e. where is this parish etc?., if you go to
http://www.carmarthenshirefhs.co.uk
there is so much information to be found on these pages - just click on
Carmarthenshire anthology and here you can find no end of information on
many many parishes.....you will also find
Carmarthenshire Parish Ordnance Survey Reference Maps for each parish in
this county.......
List of Census Registration Districts
It is a bank holiday weekend - so those of you, who do not like joining the
vast queues of traffic stay at home and browse through the Carmarthenshire
links.......you may find more than what you bargained for.....there are so
many parishes with pictures and information on them.

Hi Jackie
My index for Llandingat only goes upto 1842.......so I would not have this

Am looking for a Howell Davies in 1871-1881 or 1891 census if possible .I
believe he was born in 1861/62. In 1901 census he was 39 yrs old married to
a Margaret Davies[neeWilliams] and living in Blaenllechau. So in 1871 he would
have been 10/11and in 1881 census 20/21 1891 30/31.Would it be possible
please if this Howell Davies and parents could be located in 1871/ 1881
or1891 census. All I have to go on is that in the 1901 census he was born in
Carmarthen.Hoping someone
may help me.Thankyou.Alun.

In the Llangidat 1841 census there were 3 people living with my ancestors who do not belong to the family. Thought someone might recognize them and connect them to their family.
They are:
Ann Edward, age 15
Margaret LLoyd, age 30
Rees Thomas, age 70, drover
Jackie
Pauline,
In your spare time, would you look for a early 1825-1837 marriage of:
John DAVIES, to Jane unknown possibly Lewis.
John, grocer was from LLangadock and Jane ? could have been a widow and was from Mothvey.
Thanks,
Jackie
Pauline! It appears to be the exact kind of information I would have hoped
for. Now I just have to decide whose certificate I really need to start
with! I am forwarding an e-mail I sent to Peter Wihl again about my Davies
at Tir Bach. The question came up again, as you will see, because of an
elderly cousin's handwritten notes, as well as those of my grandmother.
However, I'm more likely to trust her obituary draft of David Lewis Davies
(Rachel's husband), because Rachel was still alive at that point!!!
Hopefully, she helped in the preparation and with the accuracy of the
information for her own husband's obit!
I may not be able to get back to this until the weekend. I ordered the
"Roots & Branches" CD form of the book Nina Jenkins so graciously helped
make available to us, as well as the 1873 Welsh Returns of Owners of Land.
I hope it's not $35 wasted! Hopefully, I can glean something useful from
it! We'll see. Thanks much!!

Hi Marilyn
The information on a British birth certificate is thus....
Registration district of birth
When and where born (date and address of birth)
first name
sex
name and surname of father
name surname and maiden name of mother
occupation of father
signature description and residence of informant
when registered
signature of registrar
this was taken from a birth certificate in 1838 - the same format applies
today.......
The answer to your question is yes, the mothers maiden name is on the
certificate.......although I have found children's birth registration with
the mothers WRONG maiden name given.....when the actual fact is known that
this is the same child born to the same parents of 'other' children. It
does throw one off course, luckily I was at hand to view each birth
certificate in the registry office.......Jones was given instead of
Davies.....
speak soon Pauline

Thanks, Pauline. It does help. So I guess the next question for me is:
which family birth certificates do I really NEED to order?? Never having
seen a "foreign" birth certificate, not to mention one so old, brings
several things to mind. Even birth certificate information here can vary by
state.
How much and what kind of information is typically listed on a birth
certificate? If it gave me the mother's MAIDEN name (rather than her first
name only!), the it would be VERY helpful. In two or three instances I have
the mother's first names, but no maiden name. Does it list information like
the parents' date of marriage, etc.? I may want to be very selective at
first (i.e., order Rachel Howells' certificate) as well as a couple on my
Davies, if it would help me gather more information about Sophia Harries,
etc., etc. What do you recommend? Thanks!
Marilyn

Hello Marilyn
Each certificate that one needs are £6.50 (six pounds and fifty pence) for
each one.
These are ordered from the relevant Registry office for Carmarthenshire -
there are only two that distribute certificates. Carmarthen Registry Office
and Llanelli Registry Office, Llanelly covering only the Llanelli, Pembrey,
Kidwelly, etc., etc., areas. If a birth took place in the Berwick area of
Llanelli, these certificates are normally in Swansea Registry office.
Conwil Elved registers are housed in Carmarthen Registry Office ....
It does get expensive when certificates are needed.......
hope this helps Pauline

the point.

The question: Can I get these on Davies/Howells/Harries from the C.R.O. as
well? And does he mean "a few" ALL INCLUSIVE for 6 pounds 50, or EACH at
that price, and that it's just cheaper to order them all at the same time to
save on fees such as S&H? He had e-mailed someone who apparently wasn't a
CFHS member. What would you recommend? Thanks.

afraid you can't do that, you must have 'the Money-go-round' to ensure the

Hi all,
I wonder if somebody with access to the 1891 census could check if the Howell
or Parker Howell family were still resident at Penrheol, Mydrim.
Many, many thanks
