Hi William
The placename cards in the CRO will show who owned this farm if it is listed
that is - not all farms are listed in the CRO - the place they are on the
map, but perhaps you may be lucky - if I remember I'll try and see if there
is a mention in the card index......
Box Cemetary is indeed in the Box area of Llanelli, although a strange name
for a cemetary the area did preceed it.......
I have Francis Dunn in Llanelli in 1851 with wife Mary and others - he was
aged 60 and a shipwright born in Kidwelly - do you have this census
information - if not let me know and I'll give you the entry.....
What a shame no information was passed down the family - When was Joseph
Daniel born - any chance of him being around for the 1881 census??
speak soon Pauline

Hi Pauline, The Searchers ( the REAL ones with Frank Allen and John McNally
) have been touring constantly for 39 years now around the world. They are
currently on a "solo" tour of theatres in the UK. Last Saturday in Torquay
they were at their best and the eight hundred in the audience demanded encore
after encore. Don't bother with the breakaway group which, by law, should
be billed as "Mike Pender's Searchers".... but sometimes aren't ! I won't say
any more on this subject and will try to stick to genealogy. Cheers, Trevor
Just a few items that I thought would interest some listers - the next one
is quite a way from home I thought.....

Francis Williams of Town of Neath in said County, a Bond given by William
Frowd of the said Town of Neath to indemnify this parish. Witness William
John of Talley, baptised Jan 18. The true father of the said child is the

I am unsure if anyone has visited the Wales Genealogy Web site set up by
Richard James Carmarthenshire FHS - the easy way to find your way around the
various web pages just at the click of a button.....
I was put off searching the web because there were so many addresses to
remember - but now everything is easy to access - to use the IGI - you just
press the icon IGI - or world maps are the same - click the icon and it
takes you straight there.
I myself seldom search the web pages, but having time to spare today I
thought I'd browse my way through - also went to various links via this
site.....
to browse here just go to
http://www.carmarthenshirefhs.co.uk
and follow the links - it is as simple as that - I've been asked numerous
times for the address for the LDS in Birmingham - this is here, along with
lots and lots of other addresses of interest - no more tooing and frowing
around different addresses - just one click and you are there - this is my
kind of searching......
If anyone does take the time to browse through this site, would you come
back and give us your views, it would be much appreciated - it's nice to
know what others think about these new pages........good or bad....
regards thanks for your time

Well, Frenonia, we may be out of luck with the birth
certificates but am I correct that Joshua lived and died in Canada. Is there any
useful info on the Canadian censi?
On a somewhat more positive note, I did find the researcher's
name and he did research the Nebo Baptist Church. I called the pastor minutes
ago and his wife said there is nothing published on his research but I've got
his phone number at Drexel University in Philadelphia and will call him
tonight.
The pastor's wife at Nebo said the records there are sketchy
to non-existant but the researcher may have put together whatever scraps are
extant.
I'll go down to Wilkes-Barre later this week and search the
microfilm of the local paper about the time of the Johnstown Flood to see
if his birth was reported and
I'll ask my cousin to check the 1900 census to see if they
were still in Pa.
I just talked with the researchers brother, they attend the
Nebo Baptist Church, and have his E-mail address so I'll E-mail him and see if
he's come across the Gimblett family. Keep
praying!

Can anyone relate to any of the following??
1739 - May 22nd, One Edwards, of the parish of Llandefeilog, hangd at
Pensarn, for pilfering.
1739 23rd May, Elinor Williams, alias Hadley, a servant at Job's Well,
hanged on the common below the Royal Oak Gate, for murdering her child. Her
body was buried near the town Railway station, where she is said to have
been gibbeted; and bones supposed to be hers, were discovered there a few
years ago. Two lads were also executed for stealing cider with other who
absconded, from Evan Thomas, of The Greyhound Inn, Carmarthen.
1740 Jan. Towy frozen over, and people crossed on the ice. The frost lasted
eight weeks, and provisions were at famine prices.
1744 5 April. Thomas Williams author of the "Oes-lyfr" licensed to preach
as a dissenting preacher, by Mr Philipps of Cwmgwilli, and Mr Adams of
Whitland, in the Carmarthen Town Hall.
1745 - Robin Lewis Richard, of Abergwilli, hanged for murdering William
Owen, of Carmarthen.
1750 - Joseph Jenkins, a noted swearer, committed to the town gaol for the
murder of his wife. Having been convicted at the next borough sessions
before Justices Pollen and Williams, he was executed on the common near the
Royal Oak Gate. St Peter's Register has this entry:- 1750 Dec 11th,
Elizabeth Jenkins murdered.

Hello Joseph,
Caul it is. According to my Webster's Third New International: caul - "an
enclosing membrane; the inner fetal membrane of higher vertebrates especially
when unruptured or covering the head at birth". In other words, he was born
in a sac. I was told, and vaguely remember hearing before, that superstition
says a person born in a caul is endowed with great good fortune - or
something like that. I wonder if that's because he had "extra" protection
while in the womb?
My cousin didn't know of a specific Baptist church that Thomas was involved
with, just that he came to the area representing the Baptists in Wales. I
have no idea of his position or function; in Wales he was, according to my
cousin, part owner in a mine. I don't have any knowledge that he was a
minister, so I'm guessing that he was a lay member/representative, sent by
the Baptist organization of his area.
I haven't requested Josh's birth certificate. The Pa web page says that
before 1906 they are in the county. The county page says it has records only
from 1893 forward. That leaves out Josh in the official records. Although,
I find that counties often have "unofficial" records, if you just know where
to look. That's why I've needed someone to check other sources to look for
him. Newspapers and church records are at the top of my list to be searched.
Gimblett is an unusual and scarce name. I agree that a little prayer is in
order.
You're certainly right about being thankful for whatever records we do have.
And when it comes to Joneses, I found the one-in-a-zillion explanatory
comment in a church record when my Jones changed to Richards (1837 period).
Talk about floating! I was ecstatic for days after that find.
Take care-
Fronia
Hi Pauline & Joy

Her death only states Wales
The Australian records try to get as much information as possible.
I do not think that the tranistion of Mary Ann's voyage was all roses as
expected, her new home after immigration on Thursday Island, Nth of
Queensland is a hot, Humid, tropical, place with many cyclones and tidal
waves. Crocodile territory up there. I have no idea how she had coped with
her new lifestyle. But take it from me I have a lot to learn about her. I
admire her stength although she had many troubles. A life I could never have
endured, but without her our family would not be.
In 1885 the island housed 3 women to 100 men. She was a troubled person and
remains a troubled soul. Something to do with her family in Wales I think,
as they did not want her to marry our Carlos GARR. She just may need to tell
them "They where right", and make pease with them. I can not do that until I
find them.

Ann, more searching but I will wait to see what Chris has for me when he

Hi Hugh
Thanks for this message - any message is encouraging - it shows that there
is someone out there after all.
With my family buried in Box Cemetary - this time with no headstone - namely
Griffith Harvey buried approx 1889 (no info available) I was this date from
the place of the plot - his wife Hannah Harvey died in 1910 aged 96 (should
be 90) their daughter Mary Thomas died 1930 age 78 (should be87) and her
husband William Thomas (Lighthousekeeper) died in 1913 aged 62 years when in
actual fact he should have been 70 years old......
I wonder who gave these ages - I have Mary Thomas nee Harvey on the 1851
census aged 8 years old - so know this to be the correct age - although by
1861 she was 16, 1881 35 and 1891 44 - so seems like she was taking a few
years off in every ten.....
Makes you wonder how we ever find any of our families......well, where they
should be anyway.....
Pauline

This query might be a little strange but we're looking into a family
piano
trying to figure out where it came from. It's a Gulbransen
Company piano.
Does anyone have any idea about how we can go about researching this?

Fronia, I'll see what I can find but I don't know what you
mean by "He was born in a CAUL and they pasted it onto a newspaper about the
Johnstown Flood". I looked up CAUL and can't believe you meant that or the folk
who delivered him did that!
Since the Johnstown Flood took place on 1 June 1889, we can
assume that he was born a few days after that when it would have been in the
newspaper.
There are lots of Baptist Churches in the Wilkes-Barre area.
I'll assume his parents were associated with one in Nanticoke, which is about
8 or 10 miles down the Susquehannah River from Wilkes-Barre.
There was a Nanticoke/Plymouth Directory for 1891, sort of a
pre-telephone phone book but the folk who have it won't be in the Plymouth
Historical Society office until next weekend.
There ARE NOW two Baptist churches in Nanticoke (on the same
street). Does the name Nebo Baptist Church sound familiar? The other one is the
English Baptist Church but I assume that his parents weren't affiliated with
that one. Do you know if his father was the pastor? Do you know his parents'
names? There are NO Gimbletts in the 2001 phone book so the name is not very
common which should help.
Have you requested his birth certificate? A Pennsylvania birth
certificate costs $4.00 U.S.

I think you must state your relationship and that
you are doing famliy research. The phone number of the New Castle, which
is northwest of Pittsburgh, office is
(724) 656-3100.
Here are several BIG ifs. Several years ago, by
chance, I met a college student studying at a local university to be an
archivist, who was researching several church histories in this area. IF I
remember correctly, one was the Nebo Baptist Church. So we have three big IFs.
If Mr. Gimblett's parents were associated with the Nebo Baptist Church, and IF
the student was researching those church records, and IF I can find him, we MAY
have hit paydirt. A little prayer might help.
By the by, this young man had traced his ancestry back to
something like 1275, a chore which necessitated his learning Old Church
Slovanic and finding the church records of a church in a town in Poland which
had been destroyed by the NAZIs and what remained was totally wiped off the
globe by the Soviets in order to build some sort of factory. Fortunately a monk
had taken the church records with him when he fled for his life.
And we think sorting out the Joneses is tough!

Fronia, I'll see what I can find but I don't know what you mean by "He was born in a CAUL and they pasted it onto a newspaper about the Johnstown Flood". I looked up CAUL and can't believe you meant that or the folk who delivered him did that!

Since the Johnstown Flood took place on 1 June 1889, we can assume that he was born a few days after that when it would have been in the newspaper.

There are lots of Baptist Churches in the Wilkes-Barre area. I'll assume his parents were associated with one in Nanticoke, which is about 8 or 10 miles down the Susquehannah River from Wilkes-Barre.

There was a Nanticoke/Plymouth Directory for 1891, sort of a pre-telephone phone book but the folk who have it won't be in the Plymouth Historical Society office until next weekend.

There ARE NOW two Baptist churches in Nanticoke (on the same street). Does the name Nebo Baptist Church sound familiar? The other one is the English Baptist Church but I assume that his parents weren't affiliated with that one. Do you know if his father was the pastor? Do you know his parents' names? There are NO Gimbletts in the 2001 phone book so the name is not very common which should help.
