Barrie,
Hi, I am a little confused, I know my Mary BOWEN and yours are not the same
person, but did yours marry another BOWEN?, is her husband a William BOWEN,
if so he is in the right place, right time, right name, to be my Mary's
brother, do you know if he had a sister. The only other BOWEN I have is a
David BOWEN birth about 1900 (estimated) who married Mary Ester Watts b.
1902.Hope you can help with this, as I would love to be able to get
anywhere with the Welsh ancestors. Many thanks
Pat Phillips.

Hi Pat,
My Mary Bowen the Pilots widow, living at 5,Bryn Terrace,Llanelly
was the daughter of William Bowen and Jane Evans who were married 16th
March
1806 in Llanelly.
I may have found William and Jane in the 1851 census living in
Marine Street both aged 66yrs (b.1785).
Jane Evans was the daughter of John David Evans and Susannah
Chalinder. The Chalinder name crops up in the Bowen family as a middle
name,so it helps link the Bowens' around Llanelli.
Mary Bowen's husband William was born around 1808-10 and possibly
the son of Morgan Bowen and Margaret Rees (married 12 Dec 1800, Llanelly).

Hi Oliver
Where have you had the names Elizabeth Evan and Ann/e Thomas from?? I
cannot find a marriage of a William John to either of these....let me know.
Onto membership - each member now receives a CDRom which is full of
information for members to browse through - all marriages between the years
of 1813-37 for Carmarthenshire, Cardiganshire and Pembrokeshire are on this
CD - along with marriage bonds pre 1800, wills to 1858, books, census
indexes etc., etc., so most people pay subscription just to receive this
CD which is an excellent source of information .......
I'm glad that you are having assistance from others, Laugharne has so much
information in Carmarthen record office - much more than the other
parishes......
speak soon - Pauline

Hi Joy
I found some Furlongs as I was looking through the Laugharne BT's. They
weren't the ones you were looking for, but they were from Halldown, so they
must be yours. I'm away this weekend, but I'll send them early next week,
Meryl

Dear Val
I was very interested in one of the entries shown on your recent contribution
to the mailing list.
5/11/1884 William Lewis be reinstated as a pilot or his case investigated.
Please could you tell me the source of this information so that hopefully I
can find out more about his misdemeanour and the eventual outcome of the
above statement
In hope
Joy (the other one!)

Hi Nicola
When you join a mailing list, this is what you get, all the mailing list
subscribers write to the list, and all the subscribers receive the mailing
list mail.
You can choose which you want to keep and which you want to delete, but you
still get all the mail. This is what mailing lists are about.

Hi Pauline,
Thank you. I have just worked my way through the many messages for today, and
I am quite astonished at your combination of efficiency, knowledge and
diplomacy! Every message contains something of interest, however far away
from one's main research.
There is a plethora of William Johns, and I had not come across Bathsheba
Owen before. Your inclusion of the occupations was particularly welcome, and
enables me to give a fuller, direct. answer to Duncan, in connection with
his search for Mary ca 1800. I had noticed the marriage to Anne in 1819, but
knowing that William was a widower opens up new possibilities. I have one
last thought. I have a note that a William married Elizabeth Francis at St
Clears in 1820, but no month or year. They had a son, Richard, b. 24 Mar
1824,( mother Elizabeth Fransis(sic), registered at Bethlehem Chapel, who
fits in well enough for the Richard at Halfpenny Furze in 1841. If William
was marrying Elizabeth at her mother's at St Clears, the crunch would be if
he is said to be a blacksmith??? Just another possibility, and I mustn't say
more. Thanks again, Oliver
Some notes I have made concerning pilots:
1. 3/1/1835 The pilot walter Morgan be suspended in consequence of the brig " Idris " being struck thrice in coming over the bar.
2. 18/5/1841 Samuel phillips dismissed as pilot and his licence taken off him.
3. 5/11/1884 William Lewis be reinstated as a pilot or his case reinvestigated.
4. 7/8/ 1832 Pilots licence granted to Daniel Evans of Llanelli.
5. 2/10/1832 The Pilots committee be required to enquire into the facts concerning the damage to the "George and Eleanor".
In light of the e-mails concerning pilots i thought they might be of interest to someone on the list.
Best wishes
Val Speed
