Hi Gerry
I spoke to Richard and he said that he saw this cross on the map and
followed the trail so to speak. It was a Chapel and not a church - there
was no name on this chapel.........
Thanks - can you see another cross there at all? He has tried all ways to
find this one, the other one he had difficulty with was
Eglwys-fair-y-churig, but through a question via e-mail which came to him,
and a lot of luck, a person who bought a farm in Eglwys-fair-y-churig also
inherited the church ........can you believe it, so Richard arranged with
this person to take a photograph - this made him very happy I can tell
you....
So just this one to find now - and as he has stated in the past, some of the
churches are in the most obscure places, and some are just a ruin.....
thanks again
Pauline

Hi Pauline,
Would you please look on the 1851 census for Llanddowror for the family of
John Hitchins/Hitchings. I believe it would be just John and his two
children, David b ca 1834 and Margaret b ca 1836. They might possibly have
gone to Merthyr Tydfil by this time, but I have been unable to locate them.
Thank you very much.
Jackie #3507
Dear Richard, re the above Church, you will find it is as follows in 1959,
Llanfihangel-Cilfargen with Llangathen, in the Rural Deanery of Llandilo,
Diocese of St DAVIDS.
Hope this helps,
Evan.
Hi Pat,
Sorry for the delay and thanks for the info, the family is
scattered around the country in 1881. One branch going over to the
states, during the war one called in to see the family as he was in the U.S.
forces prior to D-Day.

Hi Richard
I have a Bartholomews 2" to 1 mile map published 1937 and there is a cross
marked in the area of Llanfihangel Cilfargen.
To get to it turn off northwards from the A40 at Broadoak (about 4 miles
west of Llandeilo, drive about a mile and a half and turn left. The cross is
about a mile westwards on the south side of the road. The road appeasr to be
descending at this point. I would guess that an older larger scale map would
pin-point it exactly.
There is a web site for old maps but I can't remember the URL.

Hi Richard,
You have been busy with the photographing of Carmarthenshire churches! Do
you have plans to produce a cd, book? I'm sure there could be a demand!
Ray
Would some kind person have access to the 1861 cencus for Llanstephan please.
The Evans saga goes on, sorry to be a pest.
I know in the 1851 cencus for Llanybree Village.
William Evans age 29 born St. Ishmaels an Ag; lab.
Anne " 24 " Llanstephan.
Alun Prescott at the Aberdare library couldn't find them in Glamorganshire,
though i have 1871-81-91 cencus For Mountain Ash, with them on them, so it
leaves me to think they were still in Carmarthen, or one of the many the
cencus taker didn't catch.
Also where would i write to for hopefully christening records for St
Ishmaels.
Thank you in advance Sylvia
Hi Pauline
Thanks for the look up in the Llanelly Directory for J Jones and his Dairy.
I am sorry not to have replied before but I did not see either my request
or your answer come up on the list. It was only when I checked the mailing list
Archive that I found your reply. Not sure what happened?? but thanks again.

I am interested in the name SERMON/SURMAN. Although having a SURMAN
pedigree from c. 1650 - 1851, (Meline, Nevern & Prendergast) I now have
another family linked, i.e. Paul, John, Elizabeth, Mary and another sister
SURMAN. Paul was of St. Martins, Haverfordwest, John (d.1810) of St. Marys.
No relevant SURMAN is mentioned on the IGI (only 1 entry) and I have been
unable to find the parents of the above. I suspect they were 'Chapel'.
Their father was brother to Thomas and Robert SURMAN of Prendergast - again
parentage unknown. Will be grateful for any info.

Can skp give me the location of the parish church of Llanfihangel (Cilfargen) in Carmarthenshire. I found a Llanfihangel near Llanegwad. Is this the one?
Dear Fran
Thanks for the information you sent me on William Layer
in East Grinstead, i have followed William back a couple
of Generations, and i am doing well.
It was his children when they were young off the 1871
census i was really interested in (who they lived with).
Thanks once again anyway, very much appreiciated
regards
Lynne
Dear Pauline
Thanks for the information on the Layer sisters from
the 1881 census, but what i really needed to know was
where they were in the 1871 census, could they have
been in the workhouse?.
There maternal grandparents, John and Mary Jones i
think lived in Cambrian Place, is there a way of finding
out if they lived with them?.
Thanks once again for the information you passed on
to me.
regards
Lynne
Glad to see that the server is back working again........I am sure that the
millellium bug that was promised for 2000 happened in 2001, because since
the beginning of the year, I feel like my e-mail has not been connecting
like it should do.........I myself have had problems without rootsweb going
off line for a few days.
Does anyone else feel like their e-mail has been redirected to the big black
hole????

Hi Virginia
Thanks for the e-mail - I have looked in the marriages which have been
published on microfiche by Glamfhs - and there is NO marriage between a
Benjamin Thomas to a Hannah/Anna/Anne etc anywhere in Glamorganshire.
Are you sure you have the correct brides name - I also checked by Hannah
Evan/s too, and there was no match.....
Let me know if you think of anything else.......Glamfhs have completed
Merthyr Tydvil parish registers upto 1837 on microfiche which I have
purchased if you want me to look on these for you.

What exactly is available on CD please, and where is the best place to buy
them from.
Also why for example are there several Cd's available for the same census?
1881 has several areas which seem to overlap?
Thanks,
