Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Ceri,
I don't know if this is any help but I have entries on censuses of hamlets in
or near Cynghordy, (Llanfairarybryn parish) called Rhandi'r Ganol (1881
census) and Rhandi'r Ucha (1891 census). So could your Rhandi'r Abbot be near
there? Just a thought,
Yvonne
Hi - just a quick note to say to Update your virus protection daily - I am
getting virus warnings from people who have been 'talking' to us since we
started these lists.........so should know by now it is vital for your
computer to have protection - this is the only way to 'outwit' the people
who send these virus to start with.....
This virus I have found is different from the others - it tries to make you
either open or save to disc when your cursor goes onto the message- if you
do not cancel and you press the wrong button - it's in your system........
Please take warning and update at regular intervals.......if by bad luck you
have been infected Richard has sent an earlier e-mail how to get rid of
it.......good luck
Pauline
Hi Gill
What a shame they did not have this birth certificate ......maiden names
have been known to have been wrong - I have purchased certificates for one
family - the first child the mothers name was given as Jones, for the other
children it was given correctly as 'Davies'......it does happen, but not
stating that it happened in your case -
I am currently indexing Carmarthenshire 1851 - I have completed Llandyfeilog
but not Myddfai/Mothvey........I am working my way towards this place, but
unsure when this will be done....it depends where it is on the reels.....
Yes, a cordwainer is a shoemaker....speak soon Pauline

Rachel Lewis (nee Davies) was born around 1815 so it is conceivable that she
was around in 1841(she was born in Myddfair) Lewis was born around 1841.
James Williams was born around 1823 in Llandyfylog so could he have still
lived at home in the 1841 cencus.

Hi there,
I am linked with one of the Davies families (the many!) from Llangadock. My
great grandparents were a John Davies (born Pencarreg) and Elizabeth Davies
(nee Rees) who were married in Llangadock about 1858. I have found them
living in Felindre in the Llangadock area in later Censuses. Elizabeth was
born in Llangadock and I believe John remained there until his death in the
early 1900's. Of their children, Elizabeth remained in Llangadock until her
death around 1946 and, most of the others including my grandfather Morgan
'Elias' moved to the Rhondda.
I understand that John Davies 'buried' two wives and that Elizabeth was the
first. My uncle has no knowledge of his second wife and he is the last
surviving relative (I know of) from that era and must now be in his 90's.
As an aside, my great grandfather, John went out to the USA in the 1840's to
show the Americans how to lay railway tracks in curves!
Does this match up with anything you know?
Anna
Marianne,
thanks for your mail.
I'm interested that you have Samuel cousins, I've found one case where a
Samuel boy married a girl from the farm next-door, sadly not Penlan. In 1872
Thomas Samuel married Margaret Stone from Talclynisaf. They then moved away
to Ynisymond between Cadoxton and Pontardawe.
I've just found out that one brother of Thomas Samuel, David, stayed at
Talclynganol married a girl called Eliza and by 1881 had a daughter Sarah
and a son Griffith.
I think I shall have to have a look and see who was there in the 1891
census. If I do, do you have the 1891 information for Penlan ? The farms are
so near they'll probably be on the same page so it would be easy to look.
regards
Bill

It's snowing, sleeting and the meteorologist (an overpaid weather forecaster in Oklahoma!) is predicting 4-8 inches of snow by this time tomorrow night! I'm sure I'll be off to work in the morning. But just in case I'm not, I'll see if I can come up with enough information on my Davies ties to Llangadock to make an intelligent request for a look up; or at least some kind of help! I remember seeing Llangadock in some of my family notes/information; perhaps it was mentioned in an obituary. More as soon as possible. Thanks!
Hi Buddug,
Thanks for your advice, as far as i know there was no middle name for Lewis Lewis (at least not on the 1851 cencus) but you never know. Thanks again, I will persevere.

Hi Pauline
My husbands GGF David & Amelia DAVIES lived at (G)alltygolau in Felingwm
Uchaf, they had 4 children - Thomas, Sylvanus, Essex & Adah. I have got
the Llanegwad Parish Records CDRom but have not been able to find them
from 1850's-1900's. As David & Amelia married at Brechfa and St John's was
not built at that time, I was wondering if they might appear on the Parish
Records for Brechfa or perhaps they may have been non-conformist. Do you
have access to any of those records? Let me know if you are able to help
and I will send you approximate dates. I would have looked the details up
myself at the CRO, but each time we have visited the area it has been closed
for refurbishment or flooding.
Regards
Christine
Thank you so much to all who responded both on and off list. I will write away to Llanelli to get a hold of my Grandmother's birth certificate, she was born in 1906. Her parents could be on the 1881 census, I'll follow that up later, however with a name like William Jenkins (great grandfather) there must be hundreds and as for my great grandmother Jane Harris, another common name. This is going to be interesting. You'll be hearing from me again, no doubt.
P.S. I was born in Carmarthenshire and lived in a little whitewash cottage called "Llwynteg" near Meinciau - it's still there and we later moved to Pontyates. All the rellies still live in the region and none of them have traced our family history. A lot of the ancestors are buried at the Baptist Chapel in Meinciau. I was there in 1983 but had no interest then and could kick myself now, as I spent 3 months pretty much doing nothing in Pontyates and later travelled.
Best wishes to all.

You are an absolute angel. I can't believe my luck and probably won't sleep
tonight. I have been trying to find this family for ages, but they just
appeared to have vanished. I have been involved in STANLEY research for
about three years and quite an interesting bunch they have turned out to be.
Harriett must have been a good cook since she seems to have stayed with the
family for quite a while.
Thank you so much and look forward to receiving those photos.
Very best wishes Gay
Hi Pauline,
Me again, no luck with the carmarthenshire registrar office the only Lewis Lewis they had, the mother had the wrong maiden name, ( i know this to be true as i have two birth certificates for her second family and on these she gives her maiden name)
Do you, or anyone, have access to the cencus's in Carmarthen? My Rachel Lewis (nee Davies) was born around 1815 so it is conceivable that she was around in 1841(she was born in Myddfair) Lewis was born around 1841. James Williams was born around 1823 in Llandyfylog so could he have still lived at home in the 1841 cencus.
You have probably looked these up already if so i do apologise, there just doesn't seem to be any information about this family. He was a cordwainer am i right in saying this was a shoemaker?
Anyway thanks again.
Gill Williams Shrewsbury

Pauline,
Here is a breaking question for you. I wonder if you could check your
indexes for DAVIES marriages in Llangadock? If there are too many forget I
asked.
Thanks and have a pleasant rainy day!

hi ,
has your LEWIS a middle name? After months of searching for my mother's birth
certificate,it was finally found. She had been registered in her middle name
, her 1st name had been added later .This was probably done by the family as
the 1st name was that of her mother who had died within a few weeks of her
birth . keep trying all avenues.
good hunting ,

You should be able to get a copy of your grandmother's birth certificate
from the Register Office at Llanelli - cost is 6 pounds 50p. I send them a
bank cheque. Unfortunately with the exchange rate and fees this comes to
about $30. It is best to send for a few at a time.
I do not have the number and address to hand but I am sure someone on list
can give to you. The office in Llanelli is particularly helpful - not all
are.
I would also highly recommend joining Carmarthenshire Family History
Society. Their help has been invaluable to me as a novice. They are on line.
Good Luck (My g grandparents from Meinciau / Pontyates also)

Dear Listers
I wish to research my mother's family, but I don't know where to begin.
I thought I would start with my grandmother Elizabeth Jenkins. Would getting
hold of a copy of her birth certificate be the first thing to do? If so, how
do I get hold of a copy? I have my great grandparents' names, but there it
ends. My mother's family were from the Carmarthen area. My mother was born
around Meinciau. I live in Australia so it makes it a bit difficult. I have
approached relatives in Wales about information, but they seem to be
suffering amnesia and weren't very forthcoming. Your expert advice would be
greatly appreciated.
Kind Regards

Hi - it's raining in Llanelli again so stuck inside......does anyone have a
query so that I can look at indexes etc......it gives me a wonderful break
from indexing - so I am very pleased to have requests......
regards Pauline
I have only just joined this list, since last Thursday I discovered that one
of our ancestors had spent some time in Carmarthen.
Originally from Ashton-under-Lyne in Lancashire John Stanley seemed to
disappear after the 1841 Census, until he was rediscovered living near
Regents Park in London on the 1881 Census living nearby to his cousin John's
family. The 1881 Census shows that two of his daughters were born in Wales.
I checked the IGI and found the baptisms of four children at Pembrey; Henry
Llewellyn 2 April 1847, Emma Amelia 24 July 1848, Frederick George 10
November 1850 and Martha Maud Catherine on 23 July 1853.
I then checked Genuki for Carmarthen and logged onto the site for the Pembery
Historical Society and found the family living at Pembrey House on the 1861
Census. This only gives the children's initials, but I think I have managed
to work out who is who. I have also managed to print out a history of
Pembrey House from a rootsweb site.
There are three questions I would love to ask the list.
1) Does anyone have a picture of Pembrey House (I know it was demolished in
the 1960's)
2) Does anyone have any information about Pembery New Pit that John Stanley
owned.
3) Is 1851 Census surname indexed and available for a look up. I believe
John Stanley moved into Pembery House shortly after 1842, when Edward Gaunt
mysteriously went bankrupt and left.
I would be extremely grateful if someone could help with any of these
questions.

Description:
The virus arrives in infected e-mail messages. When it is activated, it will
copy itself to the Windows system directory with name KERNEL32.EXE, then deletes

in the system directory, then send the content of this file to a predefined
e-mail address.
The virus collects the e-mail addresses from the *.HT* and *.ASP files and from
the e-mail messages found in the Inbox folder. Then it will send itself to the
collected addresses. The outgoing messages have empty content. The subject line
is either empty, or contains the Re: line, or Re: followed with the original
subject, in case the address was collected from the Inbox. The attachment,
containing the virus has, double file extension, the first one being DOC, ZIP or
MP3, the second one SCR or PIF. The name of the attached file is randomly picked
from the list below:
