Hi Pauline putting in my piece, my memories of Aberavon, the milkman with the
loose milk, going down to the corner house where the post office was, run by
a couple, the man had a hook for a hand, we would go into the kitchen for a
meal once in a while and as kids were entranced how he ate with special tools.
Many Years later starting on the family history now realise he was family,
intertwined with a cousin in Australia i found on the i-net about 2 yrs ago.
But i think the memory that really sticks in my mind. we were getting ready
to return to London after our vacation and aunty Ann was getting our clothes
washed, the mountains not too far from her house, she sent us of to climb and
play, but we were without our KNICKERS, she wanted to wash them. :-)))))).

Hi Joe
You have had your replies from other listers - this is just to let you know
that Aberavon is a seaside town, which is where the school trip used to take
us every year because they had a wonderful funfair here - even if it rained
(as always) they had an indoor funfair - this is what Aberavon reminds me
of................
It used to have a lovely sea promenade - not sure what it is like now, I
have not been there for quite a few years.
Onto our trees in Autumn - yes they do change colour to bronze then brown
and they fall to the ground - I don't live near any mountains, but the
property across from myself has lots of trees, and I spend most of my time
just brushing them up, I only have conifers myself, which separates our
garden from a paddock behind where the foals are now growing fast, it is a
wonderful sight.
Glad you had so much assistance on Abervon Port Talbot.....
bye Pauline

Hi Larry
Be careful - The spelling can be Aberafon - BUT Aberfan (i.e without the
middle a) is a completely different place!

Averavon is a town very near Port Talbot, about 6 or 7 km. south of Neath.

Hello Michael
I have never heard the name Kenwith in Carmarthenshire - the enumerators
have a lot to answer for, I am at present indexing Carmarthenshire 1851
census, and the mistakes the enumerators made was crazy..........if they
could not spell they'd make a word up - looks like this is what happened
here.
I will type below all the parishes in Carmarthenshire which either start
with a 'C' or 'K' you can make your own mind up then.
Cilymaenllwyd, Cyffig, Cenarth, Cynwyl Elved (Conwil Elved), Carmarthen St
Peter, Cilycwm, Cynwyl Gaeo (Conwil Caio).
Cilrhedyn (Kilrhedyn) is in both Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire....(?)
I think I have mentioned them all - I hope someone will let me know if I
have missed any out, doesn't seem to be a lot there....but then most in this
area start with 'LL'
It looks therefore if Cenarth could well be the parish - the only thing to
do is to look at the parish register for this parish and see if you can
locate Stephen Griffith/s.
hope this helps

Hi Joe (and Helen)
I think Pauline has made her position clear on the 1851 indexing project
she is undertaking at great cost in her time (and she has to purchase
the microfilm).
I do not know who might have the 1851 census for Laugharne, Joe, except
Carmarthen RO, the NLW and the Family History Centre in London, all
rather a long way from your neck of the woods!

Okay - I have just sent one message - re one link in my chain - here is
another one:
these are my Carmarthenshire connections: anyone out there researching the
same Davies and Jones??
Hannah Jones born 1826 Llanpumpsaint, parents David and Mary Jones.
Daniel Davies born 1806 Conwil Elvet Nantclawdducha, parents David Davies
and Eliza nee Harry (born Abernant c1776). Daniel married Dinah Davies both
of Conwil 1826. Son Thomas Davies born 1828 who married Hannah Jones above
in Newchurch parish church 1850. Thomas's siblings were Sarah 1826, John
1831, Ann 1833, Catherine 1836,William 1838, David 1844, Ann 1847.
The later children were born in Newchurch and St Peters Carmarthen, I have
not found any of Thomas's siblings, so if anyone is searching for any of the
above please contact myself. Dinah is already deceased by 1851 census, have
not yet found Daniel after 1851 - he moved around far too often....
bye

Hello All
Just to let you know that I subscribed to Glamorgan lists for about 2
weeks - to ask if anyone had connections with a HARWOOD family - I said that
I was unsubscribing because of work committments, and left my message to
contact myself, I had 2 contacts through this. Well pleased. (I'll have to
go back and thank them now), Glam is so large that I did not have time to
read all their e-mails so could only subscribe for a short while, but it
paid off because I have made contact with someone else who may or may not
belong to the same line.
So if anyone on this list has not asked if anyone else is researching their
family - go ahead and ask - be nice to know what all you listers out there
are researching......does not matter even if a Davies or Jones.....
bye Pauline
Dear Pauline
I wonder if you could look up a baptism for me, in Llandefeilog, of Tabitha
Chaplain. She was born about 1781.
Many thanks for your kind help

Dear Gerry, I note from your recent Email that you have indexes of the
above census. Could I encroach upon your time for a lookup some time for
me? I have been searching vainly for the PEREGRINE family who appeared in
the 1851 census at Dowlais, Merthyr T as follows:
HENRY hd 61 Collier b CMN Kidwelly
HANNAH wife 61 b CMN Llangendeirne
ELIZABETH dau 24 Charwoman b Merthyr T
ANNE dau 17 Seamstress b Merthyr T
GWENLLIAN dau 14 b Merthyr T
The children were baptised at Bethany Independent Chapel Dowlais.
I would be interested in any PEREGRINE names on this census in order to
examine where they originated if this is possible.
Hope I am not presuming too much. Sincerely, Helen Harris
Hi Jean
I do not have any indexes of the 1841 census of Carmarthenshire, or of
the 1851 census of St Ishmaels.
I do have all the available fiches of the 1841 census indexes for
Pembrokeshire which county is my principal interest, five of my eight
great grandparents being from that county, the other three from
Carmarthenshire.
Gerry Lewis
Thanks Gerry we'll keep looking. Do you know who might have the 1851 census
for Laugharne? Jos. Gregory
