Pauline,
Nice to see you are moving on from Pen-bre| Llanelli to Llandeilo not
following me around are you:-)
As you might recollect I was looking for a Cefn Tiresgob I found that with
the help of the Llandeilo library and the Dyfed Archaeological Trust Ltd
who I might add are based in Llandeilo.
The place is now derelict but is mentioned in the book "Historic
Carmarthenshire Homes and their Families" by Francis Jones. It is just up
the Talley road on the left hand side coming of the A40 going towards
Talley. My forebears must have been tenant farmers there in the 1790s.
A little ditty, maybe someone can help me with it; it's the place I am
looking for primarily: background first.
My ggg grandfather, Frederick Evans, died in June 1855 according to the
inscriptions on the flyleaves of two books I have recovered from
Australia, in his daughters fair hand, 1 June 1855 but according to the
Carms Registrar 10 June 1855, got them to recheck it. Can anybody tell me
what day of the week 1 June 1855 was; the inscription in the book says
Sunday.
Further Frederick was a farmer from "Ynys y Gwaelod" is there any kind
lister out there who knows where Ynys y Gwaelod is?
Must admit it is only recently that it dawned on me how important the
Llandeilo Fawr region is in the history of Carmarthenshire: three castles:
Dinefwr, Dryslwyn and Carreg Cennen and the connection with the
"Deheubarth" period and of course Golden Grove is just down the road.
Best wishes to everyone.
Diolch
Rhodri
By the way Pauline when I was in Llandeilo last Saturday I went into the
Tourist Office enquiring if they had a list of cemeteries in the area;
obviously they didn't but they did produce a booklet "Tracing Your
Ancestors" published by the Welsh Tourist Board and dated 01 February
2000. There is no mention of the Carms FHS in the index of Family History
Societies! Presumably you have a copy?

I am new to this list and want to thank you for this message. I will
forward it to my son and daughter-in-law, new parents of three week old
twin boys, Kyle Thomas Irvin and Lucas Duncan Irvin. We live in the
Denver, CO. (USA) area but both familes were originally from Scotland,
the Irvines in 1720 and her father about 50 years ago. Unfortunately we
do not have a copy of the prayer book you refer to.
Thank you again.

Hello Ann
I know the microfiche reader is a simple machine, but yes they really hold
their price - £80 is about the going rate for one of these - and they are
getting harder to purchase second hand all the time.
You mentioning a cine projector - that took me back a few years when I
started indexing the census of Pembrey - we did not have a reader and we used
the projector onto the wall - and I typed from that - it did not scratch our
reel though.....
Hope you have luck in finding one....

Hello All
Because the weather has been nice this week - Richard and I are back on our
trails of photographing - we went to Llandilo twice this week, and Richard
has taken some wonderful pictures of the town itself - hopefully these will
be available on the web pages soon - just think of all the fun we have going
around these places - we do get some funny looks when we are taking pictures
though..........
Rain is forecast again for tomorrow - our summer only comes at most 2 days at
a time........
regards Pauline
We have almost completed 30% of the 1851 Census which is 30000ish entries,
(there were 101000ish entries in the Carmarthenshire 1851 Census), so when we
have completed this amount we will be putting all of this in an index on
CDROM, (rather than on Microfiche, by parish), so there would be one large
census for the first CDROM.
by the time we finish the Census, we hope to have 3 CDROM's available with
about the same amount of data on each.
Hopefully each CDROM will sell for £19.95ukpounds.
The first CDROM will consist of the following Parishes:
Llanedy, Llangennech, Llannon, Llanelli, Pembrey, Kidwelly, St Ishmael,
Llandefeilog, llangendeirne, llangunnor, Llanddarog and Llanarthney.
This constitutes the southern part of Carmarthenshire from Carmarthen St
Peter across to Llandybie and Bettws, which consisted of the most populous
part of the County, not including Carmarthen Town. A 3rd of the whole county,
so the other 2 3rds consist of 66 parishes and 68000 entries.
Does anyone have any comments.

I have uploaded the first page of Llandeilo Fawr Parish and History, just for
a taster, What I plan to do in the future with Parish Web pages, (and
hopefully we can produce many more during the next few months) is to include
a then & Now photograph section of photographs of a particular place, shall
we say 80 years ago, and the same scene today, Pauline & I have been around
Llandeilo taking some new photographs to add to the Llandeilo Pages,
photopraphing the scenes of older photographs which we have in our
collection, so hopefully these will be available to browse through in the
next few days, so for now view the first page which is at:

click on 'Llandeilo Fawr Parish and History' on the first page.

Dear Edward,
Your careful consideration of "churching" has touched me most of all.
Thank you. I knew that my mother who gave birth to me, her first child, at
37years, chose to be 'churched' and I always felt it was in thanksgiving.
I hope you will not mind me forwarding this to the lists that I subscribe
to as it may be a question that will come up with others at some time or
other.
Kind Regards, Jane

Please can someone help me.
I am desperately seeking a second hand fiche reader. I am halfway up
the Black Mountain (with my sheep and pigs!) and have transport
available only 1 day a week if I'm lucky and we're not too busy, which
is normally a Sunday. The local library is over 10 miles away and
hasn't got a reader.
I've tried contacting libraries, bookshops, even garages in the area
(and further afield) and all I could find was one in Dorset for £80 !!
I'm nearly at the stage of cutting up all my fiche and viewing them
through a slide projector - I tried with my cine projector, but that
scratched everything off !!
Please, can anyone help.

Hi Barrie
Glad you are back safe and well and that you enjoyed your trip, so sad that
you witnessed Childers all those youngesters - a couple of Welsh girls died
there.
speak soon Pauline
Hello John
After receiving the e-mail, I had to phone my sister for her copy of the
'Star' - she had to retrieve it from the paper bin - I read that paper quite
a few times and passed it each time.
You must be local to Llanelli then??
Pauline

Hello all
Just to let you know, that without our knowledge until the Clerk of Llanelli
Town Council sent us an e-mail that there was a wonderful write-up in the
Llanelli Star last week about our web site on Llanelli House and Llanelli
records : He was very pleased to say the least, and is looking forward to
discussions with Richard.
find extract below:
The web doesn't look back.
But little did local forefathers realise, when building Llanelli, that their
work would go online to the world 300 years later.
They can thank Llanelli Historical Society, which recently turned up at
members.aol.com/llanellihistsoc as an associate of the Carmarthenshire Family
History Society network with an armful of old-age facts and figures.
Burials between 1813-1837 tickle your fancy? Call up the 22 page list of all
those who passed away in the 19th century. Maybe marriages or baptisms?
Click for more data. Its all replete with exact dates, names ages and
streets.
The society is busy adding its archive of information to the web, admitting
its project is still 'under construction' but the site also includes a
chronology of local building developments, overhead maps of the area
throughtout the centuries, a tour of Old Llanelly's landmarks, a list of
public houses from 1891, and ancient census names. it's the ideal arsenal
for any time warrior, and comes in Adobe PDF format.
There is even an essay on Llanelly House's tribals and tribulations, with a
call for proper restoration, and excerpts from John Innes' historical
writings, proving the medium of the future is the most unlikely setting for
the things of the past.
****************
Has anyone been onto this web page to see what we have there? If so let us
know and tell us what you think of it - thanks very much
To send an e-mail to Llanelly historical society the number is:

Hi Pauline.
I am sending this original e-mail hope it makes sense, on a reply you said a

be payed.
Thank you so much.

Good morning from lovely cool California.
My hat goes of to Alun Preston at the Aberdare Library. I wrote for some help
with the 1861 Cencus on Aberdare Rd. Mountain Ash, he answered asking for
more definate info which i e.mailed.
Today i had an e-mail reply that looks very promising, now mabe i can start
getting to the bottom.
Would some kind person have access to the the parish and 1841 - 1851 cencus
records for the parish of Llansadwm Carmarthenshire? looking for.
William Evans circ 1821. and possibly a sister Catherine Evans circ 1832.
I know by 1861 they were in Mountain Ash, the Catherine the info is on was
working at the Swan Inn Cardiff Rd Aberdare - 61 cencus says she is 29 and
not married.
Thank you in advance Sylvia Gardner sgar178410(a)aol.com

Hi Meryl,
Thanks for all your hard work, I really do appreciate it, but I think
that David William and Richard Samuel moved to Merthyr, but not their
parents. I have been to the Library in Llanelli, but because I do not know
their parents names I wasn't sure who was who. I have written too Llanelli
Registrar and also Merthyr for David Samuels marriage but they don't have
it, when I looked up the marriage of David Samuel and Anna or Hannah Davis
there is a smudge on it so I couldn't see where the marriage took place, it
was December quarter 185l.
Thanks ver much Irene

Hi Pat thanks for your e mail, yes I did take David Samuel's age from the
1841 census. There are no parents on the Census with himself and Brothers.
I have got the marriage from Carmarthen there are lots of Samuel marriage
but of course because I don't know his parents names I do not know which
ones they are. David Samuel hand the followi children:- Ann, Mary, Ruth,
Jane and my Grandfather William. William came to Treorchy and married my
Grandmother Hannah Samuel who on the 1871, 1881 says she was born in
Pembroke, I have been to Pembroke to look at the Census, but could no find
her. 0n the 1871 Census she says she was born in Llanfernach, I looked at
that in Pembroke, no. 0n the 1881 Cenus she says she was born in Penrhyd,
looked at that no. I have got the marriage of her Parents, and found her
Mother living in Llangelar with her parents Evan and Mary Evans and Sister
Martha. Hanah's parents were named Samuel and Elizabeth Evans, I now that
Samuel Evans' Father were called Joseph Evans, but can't find anymore.
Also David Samuel is not on the 1881 Cenus.
Thanks very much Irene

Hello
As Pat said these are copies of the actual registers - as we have today - our
marriage certificates from the registry office do not have our signatures but
that of the registrar.
One little story I wish to share about certificates is that a person I know
sent off to the GRO for a copy of a marriage certificate and it gave the
fathers name as Joseph James - (hello David) for two whole years this Joseph
James was searched with no luck at all - so in frustration he phoned Llanelli
Registry office which was the district where the marriage took place, and in
the actual entry the father's name was JOSHUA James - so no wonder there was
always a brick wall, this wall is now starting to crumble......
Always something to remember not ALL information is correct - and little
white lies were often used - especially in ages on certificates as some of
you have already proved - but in birth certificates the fathers name was not
always correct either - in my family as you have all heard before - the
mother of the children gave her brother's name as the father with the real
father's name as their middle name - the three were all illigitimate - but
she still went onto marry a surgeon and promoted her father to Gentleman -
This was in London though and not in Wales so probably anything could be
said.......
