Can someone please inform me of the location of Ferryside.

I have just joined this list as i am seeking the following
Sarah Lewis WILLIAMS of Ferryside born approx 1827 and the daughter of a
Doctor.
For a long time we only had her as S L Williams from the 1881 Census when
after the death of her husband she was living in Chirk with her son.
But recently found the birth of her daughter, my wife's grandmother, in
Dorchester in 1855 which named the S L into Sarah Lewis.
She had married Charles James JOHNSON who was in the 13th Hussars/Light
Dragoons and they had lived in Ireland for a time during his service there.
I realise that WILLIAMS is a difficult name to trace in Wales but would the
second name LEWIS - also well known - give a clue to the parentage eg Dr
Williams married a lady named Lewis ?
Any help in this direction would be welcome.

Hi Dee
Without any other knowledge of this man it will be hard to know where he was
from.
I did have a friend named Sian Pritchard and she was from Porth Madog in
North Wales - does anyone have a list in North Wales??
Hope this helps - does anyone else on the list have knowledge of this
surname??
Regards

HI Carole
I don't have the 1871 census indexed - only 1851 and 1881 for Llanelli - have
you viewed these census records at all.
Otherwise you would have to order the microfilm from your local LDS FHC
centre - or contact someone to research for yourself.
Hope this helps - if you have not viewed 1881 let us know
Bye

Hi Pat
Didn't I send you the 1851 census - these were the only ones to a
copperworker in Llanelly - Oxen Street was just off Thomas Street and not far
from a street named Goring Road - Oxen Street is now a car park....
I found a family living in New Road which is not far from Oxen Street - so it
could be possible - do you have a street map of Llanelli at all?
How many Thomas Thomas's of the right age with the right wife were in
Llanelli in 1881?? Can you eliminate any of them?? Let me know
Speak soon
Pauline
Hello Angela
Thanks for the e-mail - one problem is that Carmarthen RO uses the original
parish registers in most cases - these cannot be photocopied because the
photocopier would ruin the registers....
They should have had their printer-reader working by now, but they were sent
the wrong lens (agh) but they can only photocopy registers which are on
microfilm -
They do write out a transcripts of the actual entry in the register - not
sure how much, but you are a member of ours so we transcribe any entry you
feel may be yours and I could just type it out onto an e-mail and you could
file it your end - give me the marriages you want and I'll go and get the
information for you when I am next in the RO.
Hope this helps - did you enjoy the wonderful weather at the weekend - nice
change - but back to normal today - I hope the weather is kind to us for the
summer holidays -
Bye for now, speak soon
Pauline
Let me apologize up front if I am posting this message to the wrong list!
I am just beginning research on my great, great grandmother based on the following entry in a family bible:
Rebecca Williams, Sept. 27, 1852
Abergavenny in Llandilo Parish
The little I know about this confuses me because the only Abergavenny I can find seems to be in Monmouthshire and the only Llandilo Parish I can find seems to be in Carmarthenshire!
Can anyone tell me whether there is a place called Abergavenny in Carmarthenshire? Even a reference to another, more appropriate list for this question would be greatly appreciated!

Pauline - Robert and Mary Griffiths lived in Bryngwin Row, Llanelli in 1859. They had two boys - William b.1857, and Robert b.1859. Is it possible to check the 1871 census to see if they were still there, and if they had more children. Thank you, carole wilkes

Hello Pauline,
I know I've been quiet for a while but I have been reading the list,
trouble is I subscribe to a couple and I seem to spend too much time
reading and not enough doing!!
I do have a question this time though. I've found a couple of
possibilities in your marriage indexes, what I want to know is have you
any idea how much the Carmarthen r.o. charge for photocopies if they are
given the details ( names, dates and parish)?. I have done this with the
Cornwall record office and they just charge me 55p a copy plus a small
handling charge. What with the school holidays and work I can't see
myself getting to Carmarthen for a few months so if I can get copies
through the post at a reasonable price I can get them sooner rather than
later.

Hello, I'm looking for for
WARNER PRITCHARD
b. Abt. 1820
b. Possibly in Wales
I have heard that he was born in Wales, but I do not know where in
Wales.
Do you know if there are certain areas in Wales where Pritchard are
more prevalent and common than other counties or areas?
Warner Pritchard's wife, Ruth Dolton, possibly Indian or part Indian
was born 1818 in Virginia (possibly West Virginia) , United States.)
His children were Samuel, Frances,Clarissa, Sarah and Henry Pritchard

To answer your question Pauline, Thomas Lewis Howell was married by licence to Eliza Jones in Llanedy in 1827.
We think the witness was J.M. Howell, but a casual glance at the old script might leed you to believe in was Mr. ( as opposed to J.M. ). It's really hard to tell from the scroll type writing what the initials are. In your earlier look up you thought it was " Jno."
I live in London, Ontario. I would like to be able to nip across to Cardigan to research Thomas Lewis Howell b.Penbryn aprox 1799 but it's just a shade too expensive !
Thanks for the details about the Bishops Transcripts for that area Pauline. I can order the film from my local LDS Centre. It takes about 4 weeks to arrive and it costs me 5 Can. dollars to look at it.
A bargain, for the info you get out of it.
Graham Howell.

Hi Eddie
There is not one marriage of a Seaborn/e to a Hamrick/brick - sorry. I do
not have any Hamrick's - maybe the marriage connection came at a later date.
Only to ordinary names - but my index only goes upto 1837 - there are more
prominent in Pembrokeshire - but I don't believe the name to be Welsh.........
