This has to be them I'm sure. The witness to Thomas Henry's marriage was Mary
A. Hughes. We always assumed that was his mother but obviously it was his
sister. The address looks the same. I am so grateful.
Thanks a million,
Heather

There are two Thomas Daniel baptisms in Llandeilo Fawr between 1730 & 1750,
these are as follows:
Thomas Daniel to Daniel John Thomas, 20th Sept 1738 Mynydd Bach Chapel,
Llandeilo Fawr.
Thomas Daniel to Daniel Thomas & Anne, 20th July 1747, Llandeilo Fawr.
Both these are taken from the IGI, the records available for Llandeilo Fawr
on the IGI are:
Christenings 1733-1876, Parish Church :
Chr 1810-1837 Ebenezer Wesleyan
Chr 1779-1837 Hermon Independant
Chr 1814-1837 Llandeilo Calvanistic Methodist
It seems these are patronimic baptisms, unless the IGI has got it wrong, you
would be well advised to order these from your nearest LDS Church and view
them, and check the actual records, before you take them as true.
Regards
Richard James

Sorry, Pauline.
I don't really expect you to be a mind reader! I intended to add details but
must have pressed the send button before I did. Put it down to this sudden
rush of sun we've had! Here are the details.
John Hughes father signalman
Mary A. Hughes mother
Thomas Henry Hughes son b. 1870, Haverfordwest Pembs.
(There may of course have been other siblings but I don't know of any yet.)
I have the marriage certificate for Thomas Henry Hughes. That tells me that
in 1892 he resided at (and here I just have to make an attempt at reading the
very elaborate script) East/Cart Pett/Pell/Pelt, Haverfordwest. I don't know
if that looks like anything you might have in the census. Of course, that is
not necessarily where they lived in 1881 but you never know your luck!
As to where the corn merchants fit in...that's anyone's guess at the moment!
Thanks,
Heather
Hello Pauline,
Would you be kind enough to search Census for 1841 and 1851, Pembrey, for
John DAVID, wife SOPHIA and their family, if any, please?
Kind regards,

Hi Heather
Could you give me names and dates for the Hughes family that you are looking
for - ideally an approximate year of birth also - there are so many entries
as you can imagine on the CD that I have to have a lot of information first
before I can even do a search.
Thanks Heather - hope all is okay with you
Pauline
Pauline,
Thanks for trying, I suspected that the marriage might have taken place in
Brecon. I don't know if Brecon has been indexed, I shall try the Powys
mailing list and see what they have to say.
Thanks
Terry

Hi Pauline,
We got so tickled about how HOT it is going to the archives. It is about 95
in the Houston, Texas area with lots of rain and humidity. I hate it too.
Stay totally inside. We even grocery shop in the evening.
Best regards,
Jodie BOWEN Russu
Hi Pauline,
Thanks for looking - no need to look further afield because they were only based in Holyhead. No worries - I am devoting next week to the NLW because the weather is going to be horrible. Yesterday was very, very, very humid and we got flooded last night with the downpours - today blue sky and threatening black clouds so I'm off to watch the Grand Prix!
Thanks for that.
Rhian.
Hi all & Pauline !
I have a hunch. One of those that sends a tingle up your spine !
Can you check the 1941 and 1851 Census of Llanelli for Thomas Lewis Howell
M.R.C.S. ( b. abt 1799).
His son George Haynes Howell was married at Swansea Parish Church on 28th
Sep 1850 and it's my " hunch " that Thomas Lewis Howell moved there in or
about that time, and that's why I can't find him or his wife Eliza Jones
anywhere in Llanelli.
Maybe the 1851 census of Swansea would bring him to light ?
Graham Howell.
Hi Rhian
I cannot find a Coach rider or anything to do with coaches in the 1881 census
for Anglesey, do you think they lived on the mainland - I have only checked
where you said, maybe they had moved. They were either farmers or labourers
in Anglesey, or seafaring men....
let me know if you want me to look further afield.
How's the weather with you - it's brilliant down here on the coast....
Pauline
Hi Terry
We looked in Carmarthenshire, Pembrokeshire, Cardiganshire, Glamorganshire
and Monmouthshire Marriages 1813-1837 and NO they were not there - there was
only one Rees Jacob in the marriages and that was in 1776 -
Our marriages more or less cover the whole of South Wales but we do not have
Brecon - has Brecon been indexed?? As you know we have Pembs Cardigan and
Carms on computer on an easy to read database, so no problem to look up
marriages for this time span, we have the whole of Carmarthenshire from
1754-1837 - some earlier.
Glad to help Terry - the weather is TOO hot to go to the archives this week -
although I am always freezing when I go there and take lots of woolies........
Nice day again today - shame it's going to change by the weekend - as always.
See you soon
Pauline
Dear Pauline,
Could you look in your 1873 landowners directory and check if there are
Hughes in Haverfordwest there. If not, could you possibly check the 1881
census. My aunt still insists they were wealthy merchants. Do you mind
crossing the border into Pembrokeshire?
Thanks Heather
I hope to go to Talley to do family research, could someone tell me if there
is a bus from Llandeilo to Talley? Or a bus from some other town on the
railway line to Talley. Thank You Betty

Thanks for the ideas Pauline. There is an LDS centre near me in London,
Ontario about 10 minutes away ! ( Lucky me ).
I'd like a dime for every hour I've spent down there this year. Think they
would, as well.
The centre, although 4000 miles away from Wales, has comprehensive lists of
will abstacts and a complete index of the 1881 census and most of the 1891
census as well, including Llanelly !
Also it has GRO Birth, Death and marriage on microfilm up to 1900.
But i've researched most of that down to the last comma, so that's why I
joined Carmarthenshire F.H.S.
Graham Howell.
Pauline,
No luck on the Davies search for you. RO was quite again today, which gave
plenty of room to spread out. If you are looking for something to do I have
not been able to find a marriage between Rees Jacob and Esther Thomas
c1823-30. I have checked the Carms and Pembs indexes in RO. Most likely
parish is Llanddeusant, so I suspect the marriage may have taken place over
the border in Brecon, nothing in IGI either. If you could keep an eye open
I would be grateful.
Terry

Hi Graham
Give me an exact idea of what you are after - perhaps there is something your
side that is missing, but we have it here - I know we have spoken about it,
but when time passes I cannot remember everything - and with so many queries
I do not file them all either.......
Let me know and I'll see what I can find this end - the only one in Llanelli
was the one already given - so maybe Llanedy or thereabouts....
Bye speak soon
Pauline
Hi Pauline,
Thanks for looking. I'm wondering whether Richard Thomas jnr and Anne were in fact married in 1881 - the birth dates of the sons were from 1885 onwards- only John down as 1878/80 (there's a large gap there) and the information giver (my uncle) is not wholly reliable!
I'm only guessing but Richard Thomas snr (the stage coach rider)would most likely have been around late 50s/early 60s in 1881 and living in Twyn/Penrhos Beach area of Holyhead - no idea of spouse.
