Hi Pauline
Thanks for looking at the Carmarthen pubs. Yes I think she would have
been the tenant and not the owner. She is at the Stanley Arms, New Dock
in 1861, I've lost her in 1871 and then she has a boarding house at Pier
Street, Swansea in 1881. I've dredged that area for 1891 without any
success. I just thought she may have returned to her birth place.
There seem to have been an awful lot of pubs in 1891!
Thanks for looking. I think DINGLE is quite an unusual name, isn't it?
She married in the Swansea area in 1857 so it may be a Glamorgan name.

Oops,
Made a mistake with the name of Elizabeth Styfer in my previous message.
After very close inspection I feel it is probably Elizabeth STYLER.
Thanks Charlotte Smith

Hello,
I have just recieved the death certificate for my gg grandmother Rosina
Flavin 1933. And had a couple of questions relating to the certificate.
Place of death is registered as 82 Ann Street, would this be a hospital
or a private residence?
Informant to her death was her daughter Elizabeth STYFER (Lizzie) 28
Ropewalk Rd. Llanelly.
Elizabeth STYFER as associated to a candy company by marriage?
I am trying to locate any relatives to Elizabeth Styfer with the hopes
that I can break through that very thick brick wall and carry on with my
family history.
Thank you,
Charlotte Smith British Columbia Canada
Hello Denise
Checked out for the name 'Dingle' there was not one there - was it in the
Carmarthenshire district you required it.
The following Public Houses are all from 1891 Llanelly Division
Llanelly Parish - 73 public houses
Wern district - 21
New Dock District - 20
Five Roads district - 3
Pontyeats District - 4
Bynea District - 2
Dafen district - 4
Llwynhendy district - 9
The following were classed differently:
Llanedy parish - 11
Llannon parish - 5
Llangennech parish - 10
Pembrey parish - 38
Boro of Kidwelly - 21
The above give tenants but the Carmarthenshire ones only give the owners and
name of public house - not the tenants!!

Hello All
If anyone has sent e-mail to Cmnfhs1(a)aol.com since Sunday a.m. - could you
please send to me again - my Hard Drive failed and I've lost all my work
(except backed up copies) -
Anything to the roots page is okay - just the ones to my personal e-mail
address I want re-sent.
Thanks - I talk an awful lot to quite a few of you on this line, so I would
appreciate the messages sent again.
Sorry about this mis-hap

Hello Jean
If you are ordering the Parish Registers for Llanwinio (from 1729) the early
part may be in Latin - but everything else would be in English.
The only registers that would be in Welsh are the non-conformist
Church/Chapel registers - but if you come across anything just make a note of
it - send it to the list and we'll all do our best to translate it for you -
no problem

Carmarthenshire FHS will be on-line with 'Genfair' by 5th May 99
So those of you wishing to join the FHS would best wait until the Credit Card
facility is available.
But Genfair are hoping to get it online sooner, probably by the weekend, the
URL:

Keep an eye on this URL, I will also let you know when it is online.

Hello Pauline,
The maps you sent with my research were 1. Llanelly at sw corner, Dafen in
the near center and Felin-foel at top center of the map and 2. a street map
of Dafen, but none of the Carmarthenshire parishes pre 1830 with commencement
dates of registers. I really could use the pre 1830 parishes map with many
thanks if you could send it too.
Another question --- If my William and Sarah FRANCIS were most likely married
in the time period (1840 to 1847) after the available indexes (1813 - 1837),
and they were from Llanfihangel, Carms and Loughor, Glamorgan with their
daughter Ann b. in Merthyr Tydvil, Glam in 1847, would they more likely have
been married near Sarah's home or William's home? Ann was married in Sion
Chapel. Might they have been married there also as members of the Baptist
Church or is Sion Chapel open to all denominations? What would have been
the tradition at that time? and where could I check for their marriage
record?
Pauline, if Llanelly receives it's weather from slightly southwest (Ohio) you
will have a most beautiful week. Lots of sun, 65-75 degrees and clear skies.
It has been very close to perfect!!! By the way, which direction does your
weather come from?

Hi Pauline
I noticed that you had the 1891 Return of Public Houses and wondered if
there was a Catherine Dingle mentioned.
Is it possible to check it for just a name or would you need the name of
the pub first?
Here's hoping and thanks

Hello Pauline,
I have been to my nearest FHC and found some of the records they have are
in Welsh. Do you know if the same would be true if I were to order the
Llanwinio Parish Records that you mention below? I cannot read the Welsh
language.
Thank you.

Pauline,
Sorry to be a pain, I sent the below message on the 10th March, I don't
seem to have any reply, did you not receive this message, or has it just
got buried under a pile of other work, I do appreciate the work you do and
realise you are very busy, but would be very grateful for an answer to this
problem, Many thanks.
Sorry to come back again with this one, but Barbara has sent the 1861
census information below,
1861 Census Carmarthenshire Borough of Kidwelly 29 Causey St. page 5
Hannah Phillips head Widow 59 Washerwoman b.CMN St. Clears
George Phillips son Marr 24 Blacksmith b. CMN Kidwelly
Hannah Phillips dau in law M 23 b. PEM Cosheston
William Phillips Grandson 6 mo. b. CMN St. Ishmael
Do you remember we were looking for a George Phillips born in Kidwelly in
1837, well going by the above information his mother couldn't have been
Mary Bowen Phillips as we first thought, is there any chance you could look
at the Kidwelly births again to see if we can find this George son of
Hannah? Is it going to be to early to obtain a birth certificate?
1047. Thanks very much for your help.
Pat Phillips.

Hi Pauline
I have now established that John Beynon would have been approx. 24 yrs in 1881 and his wife was Sarah Roberts. They would probably have had 2 sons, out of their total 6 children, by1881 but not sure (eldest son Tom).
Could you have a look and see if he was one of the Beynons you found in the 1881 census from Llanelly?
Thanks.
Rhian

Hello
Glad your posting to the list -
I looked through Carmarthenshire marriages 1754-1837 - no Rumsey/ays
Marriage Bonds & Fiats from 1612 - none
St Davids Diocese Testators Wills 1564 - 1858 - none
I only looked in the above because these are the earliest records that we
have.
Sorry but they do not seem to be from Carmarthenshire, Pembrokeshire or
Cardiganshire.
You must remember that for the 1600's in Carmarthenshire you'd be very lucky
because most of the parish registers do not start until the 1700's -
Hope this has helped - regards

Hello Patty
Thanks for you welcome e-mail and for your 'thanks' much appreciated it makes
it all worthwhile when you are appreciated.
I'll check Kidwelly registers next week. I do not have a photograph of
Carmel Chapel but in time Richard and I hope to take photographs of all the
existing Chapels. We have photographed all of Carmarthenshire Parish
Churches, so we should do the Chapels next.
Carmel Chapel is really out of the way - up a hill (mountain) there are a few
cottages below this chapel, which is found along narrow winding roads - but
the graveyard is really large - the problem being that not any of the burials
have been listed to state who is buried there - it is in an area called
Carmel part of which we call the 'Graig' which is all linked up to a place
named 'Achddu' - you do need to be Welsh to even think of pronouncing these
names --!!
Enjoy your weekend - speak soon

Hello Dave
Thanks for the e-mail - the copies I have don't go that far out in
Carmarthenshire - Abergorlech is in Llanybydder parish - I've yet to get more
copies - if you have not heard from me in about a week - post the same
message to remind me - thanks.
Speak soon - if you have any other queries let me know - check out my
holdings on

Hello Chris
Did you read the e-mail from Shirley yesterday?? She may have connections
with a Francis family aeround the same time from either St Clears or
Llanfihangel Abercowin which is not far from Llanstephan - worth a thought!!
You have not infringed in any way - this is a list for look-ups so go ahead
and keep on asking - speak soon

Barry,
As yet I do not have an interest in EVANS in Llansadwrn but I do have an
interest in DAVIES. William DAVIES of Disgwilfa, Gwastade, Talley b 1839
and Margaret THOMAS of Cwmsidan, Llansadwrn b 1837 were married abt 1857.
He had a sister Mary b abt 1831.
Put it in your memory bank in case your Mary is connected.

Hi all,
I have have been watching the posting on the List and have seen nothing
that connects to my Richard DAVIS line in Wales to date. Am I early or late?
I am seeking info on the parents of Richard Davis (b. 1685/95 Wales - d.
1761 Granville Co., NC). His first or second child Absolom was born about
1713 in Caroline Co., VA. Richard died in Granville Co., NC, will 1760.
Absolom died about 1795 in Wilkes, Elbert or Lincoln Co., GA. About
1759/60 Richard moved across the VA-NC state line from VA to Granville Co.,
NC. Most of his life he lived in VA. Does anyone have any information on
Richard's parents or his Davis line?
Some say he founded the Pencada Welsh Tract Calvanistic Baptist Church in
1703 in PA now DEL. Richard and his wife Jannett were among a group of 15
or so Baptist from here and there around counties Carmarthenshire and
Pembrokeshire, Wales, who withdrew to form a new Calvanistic Baptist Church
to be founded in Pennsylvania. They selected a minister, Thomas Griffith,
who, I am told, came from the Rhydwilim Church in Wales. Others followed
them later and joined the Pencada Church. Up to 1711 most were also from
the Rhydwillin, next from the Kilcam Church in Pembrokeshire, next
Lanwenarth and also Blaenen-givent? Churches. It appears that by 1750 the
Calvanistic Baptist churches remaining in Wales had changed to Calvanistic
Methodist. Does the Rhydwillin Church still exist as a Baptist Church or
what?
Does snyone have information on this Richard Davis line? Would someone
tell me where I may access the Pencada Church 1703 to 1725 church records
and/or find when Richard left this church and where he went?
There was a Richard Davis who landed at Jamestown among the first few
ships. He was almost a hundred years too soon. I believe Augustine Davis,
the 1700's VA printer, was also from this Davis line.
Best regards, Bob H. ___
