I am looking for parents for these two ancestors: John RICHARDS (born abt.
1738) of Carmarthenshire, Wales. Wife was Elizabeth, also of Carmarthenshire.
They were married abt. 1756 in Llangadock, Carmarthenshire.
ALSO, the parents of...
Rees WILLIAMS chr. 28 November 1741 in Llangadock, Carmarthenshire, Wales.
Wife was Mary, also of Carmarthenshire, Wales. They were married about 1762
in Llangadock, Carmarthenshire.
If anyone has any information, I would appreciate any tidbits!
Thanks,
Shauna
Hello Tony
I have checked the microfiche for the 1851 census CarmarthenTown, but there is
not one Ada Williams.
Could Ada have been a second name, and not the given name? I also checked
under the surname William. The only female names starting with an 'A' are
Alice, Amy, Angelina, Ann, Anna and Anne.
Any other ideas? Shall I look up the baps for you, was she of the Anglican
church? Carmarthen had various Churches at that time.
Let me know

Pauline

Hello Pauline
Thankyou for trying to find Henry Scurlock. Can you see if his wife appears in
the 1851 census for Carmarthen Town ? She was Ada Williams and possibly at
Pentremeyrig or College Road Carmarthen. I do not know her age in 1851 - but
she did have achild in 1858.
Many thanks

Hi Rwilli1380
Couldn't help but grin at your terms describing the the unusual name of
Williams in Carmarthenshire, this family has given me so many headaches, over
the past 10yrs, finally just when i thought the riddle had been solved, i
learn the info just could be wrong, so i have resorted to sending all my data
to the family history society, the wonderfull people there are so patient and
have a great deal of knowledge, i feel certain if any one can solve they will,
and i will gladly pay any expenses involved just so the headaches will go.
To top this of they are also closely linked with the Evans family from the
same area.

Hello
Sorry Shauna
Did anyone notice the end of the last message was missing - I'd started it
last night and did not finish it, and it was sent in error.
Here is the information:
Bwlchnewydd Independent Chapel, Newchurch
Branch of Pantteg, Abergwilly from an early period to 1728. Lamas St Chapel,
Carmarthen also helped the cause here in the early days. E Davies served as
minister of this place and the Old Chapel, Llanybri, Llanstephan from 1743-58.
It was joined with Pantteg again from 1765-1813. The minister of Saron,
Llangeler served this place and Hermonm, Conwil Elfed had the same minister.
Periods of Growth - Revival of 1849
Records Available
1. Baptisms here and at Elim Chapel, Carmarthen 1805-41 RG4/4123; and burials
1855-57 RG4/3816 PRO London (GS828109) IGI
2. Llyfr Bedyddiadau (baptismal book), John Thomas period (1841-50) is held by
the secretary of Bwlchnewydd.
If you have access to the LDS or FHS you would be able to order the above
microfilm, this would tell you if they were baptised or not. Hope the above
information has helped.

Betrothal:
>From the twelfth Century, Betrothal followed by a pregnancy, or by
consummation, was considered a valid marriage, although a formal declaration
of matrimony before witnesses was the norm and expected (Legally??!!).
So if you cannot find a specific marriage, especially in Wales at a date you
would expect it to be, a betrothal would in many surcumstances be excepted by
the village, (remebering the large number of nonconformists from 1700 onward,
and that one could only get married in the conformist Anglican church.
Legally?!) especially when the church expected a fee for a simple marriage
cerimony and certificate?!
ANY COMMENTS????
