Adele --
Thanks for your interest, and pointing out that some references are
obscure.
The personal mailing list is available to Rootweb Sponsors ($24 donation)
and allows them to receive copies of mail containing designated search
words. It is permissible to link to the posts and/or to request permission
to repost. Permission is usually freely granted and should be stated.
When the mention is a passing one, I try to put the key facts in the
subject for easy reference in the threaded archives and list the source.
the mailing list or bulletin board to be searched. This is in the hope
that researchers can go back and get the information in six months if
another clue turns up. This eliminates the need to keep copies of messages
which do not pertain to the branches I am actively working on.
I try to be brief, and make the process as uncomplicated as possible in
order to keep it manageable.
.
In this case the subject of the original message was:
PML mention Sarah E Richland County IL 1860s m. Pew
and the message had the link to the message I received.
My purpose in forwarding to the list the link to the information about
Sarah is to give current list members notice that there is a reference to
her in the Richland County IL mailing list and also to have a pointer to
that information in the archives for future reference and for future
researchers.
The post will be permanently searchable and available to the
genealogical community in both the Threaded and Interactive Archives.
Hopefully if I find another reference to Sarah E in IL in 1860s or in
Richland or adjoining counties, or to the children of Sarah Carman Pew I
can go back and search for the information in the permanent archives.
I have been trashing messages that had headers, but no message, but I
have
begun to wonder if there wasn't originally more to this, and perhaps other
messages.
I think that the permanent archives were probably established during the
time that you were offline. All messages in Rootsweb lists are
permanently archived and searchable by the general public.
If the subject didnt strike a bell, you can always go back to the
archives later and retrieve it.
And you can always search any of the list archives for any subject
at any time --
Please do continue to let me know if you have any questions --
Also, always have to say that because the archives are permanent, the
rights of living persons must be respected and no
personal, private or proprietary information should be posted.
