Patricia,
I take it your point was the fact that most
information on the net is subject to being
manipulated
Aye! La Vida Internet! Communication is soooo
difficult.
Hmmm-- that was not my point, and the sentence proves
itself.
I thought I quoted the advertisement to show that
internet genealogy is big business and the general
public is aware and being taught that it is a way to
find people.
Although I was surprised to see the advertisement in
RW Review (for those who have cancelled their
subscriptions, in the issue that just came out today
there is an advertisement for one of the search
places), I see a lot of people searching for living
relatives, adoptive parents, etc. and so that is a
service for them.
For copyright aficionados, I ran across two articles
mentioning their opinion that there may be an implied
license to forward and archive posts to public lists
and newsgroups.
One is by Thomas Field on the Franklin Pierce Law
Center Site

and the author of the other is not specified
and is on a private site of a Physics Professor in
Europe. It appears to be work connected with an
international internet group but I know nothing more
about the group.
