Was the name "Rueben" or "Reuben"? If it was consistantly spelled
Rueben,
as you say, then it would be easier to follow, as the common spelling is
Reuben.

Subject: [CARMAN-L] The elusive Stephen & Rueben Carman of PA and IND
I have a couple of mysteries. Have also decided that Carmans are
magicians. I am decended from Stephen Carman, wife name is Rachel (no
known maiden name). He was in Crawford County, PA as late as 1810 along
with his brother Rueben (wife's name possibly Annette) & family. Then both
disappear at the same time. All but one of Stephen's children remained in
Crawford County.
I have found both Stephen & Rueben Carman is Lawrenceburgh, Dearborn Co.,
Indiana. At least I hope so, but with the naming patterns, who knows??
Guess What!! They disappear again. Talk about Houdini's skills.
There are some marriages in Dearborn County.
Ann (who I believe is Stephen's daughter) m. Manuel Myers
(Crawford Co, PA records show that Anne had married M. Myers from Indiana.
I had been a little
stuck on this as I did not know if it was Indiana, PA or the state of
Indiana)
Rachel Carman who m. Elijah Saltmarsh 08 Dec 1825 in Dearborn County,
Indiana
(Two of her sons were named Rueben and Stephen)
They moved on to Illinois
There are also
Amos Carman m. Mary Huffman 9-11-1827 by consent of guardian John Boyer.
Carpenter Carman m. Mary Ann Shoemaker 3-24-1836.
I am open to any ideas or help on any of these people.
