Mrs. Carman, Resident Here 49 Years, Dies
Mrs. Ellen Jane Carman, 77 years old, died at 1:15 o'clock Sunday morning
at her home, 2225 Harlem avenue, after an illness of a year. She was born
in Illinois and came to Joplin 59 years ago. She was a member of the Empire
Baptist church and the Half Century Club and was the widow of J.E. Carman,
who died in 1940.
Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. G.A. Goudle of California, Mrs. Lenora
Leckie 715 Kentucky avenue, Mrs. C.E. Martin, 1625 North Florida avenue,
and Mrs. Hugh McKinsey (sic), 2213 Harlem avenue; seven grandchildren and
one great-grandchild.
Funeral Tuesday
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 o,clock Tuesday afternoon at the
Empire Baptist church, with the Rev. K.L. Sutter and the Rev. Arthur King
in charge. Burial will be in Fairview cemetery under the direction of the
Hurlbut Undertaking Company.
Active pallbearers will be Jesse Day, Louis Stribling, the Rev. J.A. Jones,
G.W. Martin, Jurry Gilbert and Thomas Douglas. Honorary pallbearers will
be members of the ladies adult Bible class of the church.
