Thanks for your interest. Although none of my line in IL were veterans in
19c wars, I posted to the list and for the permanent searchable archives.
Was looking at other surnames in Illinois and saw these too.
My line went to Illinois in 1830s, but is from Henderson (was Warren)
County, across from Burlington Iowa. They were from Middletown, Monmouth
County, New Jersey and go back to Samuel 1757-1838 who goes back to John-2
b.in Roxbury, MBC.
If you would like to post your line for the present list, and for the
permanent, publicly available and searchable Rootsweb archives
(eliminating personal details for anyone born in 20c) that would be
great. I'm a dedicated lurker myself -- your call, either way, no
problem.
If you come from a line which is not from John-1 of Roxbury and/or Lynn I
would like to add it to the outline at
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~carman
This is probably more detail than you meant, but here it is:
I have good documentation back to Samuel Carman 1757-1838 m.
Deborah Burrowes of Middletown, NJ. Believe this line goes back to Samuel
Carman of Middletown NJ whose 1728 will mentions property in commons in
Hempstead, NY, and think he is Samuel-3 son of John-2 b. Roxbury MBC 1633.
I follow William Stillwell Carman's 1880s version of the line in his
"Carman Family mss: Samuel-3 m.Elizabeth; John-4 m. Martha Dorsett;
Joseph-5 m. Deborah Denton; Others follow H. Tredwell's mss. as Joseph-3
to Staten Island and then Joseph-4 m. Deborah Denton. Joseph m. Deborah
Denton in Hempstead, and their two sons John and Samuel are documented in
their aunt Jemima Denton's will as born in 1722 and 1734. A Samuel Carman
m. Mary Wilson in Middletown NJ in 1740s and it is presumed Samuel
1757-1838 is their son.

Sorry - none of our line ended up in Ill. Do you know who your
original
Carman was?
