Hmmm--wonder if it there could be an upstate connection?
Thanks for your prompt reply.. I've been working on the Carman -
Kouwenhoven connection and came across a daughter for Timothy-4 (Sam-3,
John-2,1) She married into the Risley family the Timothy's widow Ann Mann
Carman married into and Richard Risley's grandmother was a Cownhoven
descending from a gr..uncle However, realized that if my theory defending
William Stillwell Carman's Sam-3 (John-2,1) John-4 line to Joseph-5 m.
Deborah Denton, then Joseph should have been mentioned in Sam's 1728 will,
as Richard-4, and his his executors John and Timothy were.
Have to think up a new theory why I dont think Joseph-3 Joseph-4
m. Deborah Denton is the right line..
Also Harry Macy has an article about Daniel Whitehead in the October 2000
NYG&B RECORD, in which he identifies Daniel-2's wife as Abigail
Stevenson,
Rain and fog here.

John Southard, son of Thomas did marry a Grace ____ but I am not
aware that
she was a Carman. John is documented in the NYGBS books by Hoff, "Long

appears
on the 1698 Hempstead census.
Thomas Southard, John's father, had land transactions with John-2 Carman in
Hick's Neck. John-2 Carman did have a grand-daughter Grace (through his son
Joshua and Grace Rock Smith). But this Grace was born about 1705 and married
John Pine. This is the earliest Grace Carman I am aware of and her age /
children would not permit her to be the same woman.
Also, according to Hoff, John Southard Jr. and his brother Joseph were born
closer to 1696 & 1697
