OK, lets see who can identify the folks mentioned on the fan.
Sarah Machet, Gabriels second wife appears to have been "Mrs. McChett"
according to the fan and so she was probably married previously also. And
now they know what happened to her - poor house and a potters field.
There is no author on the fan.
Amanda Carman is Gabriel, John, John to her, but she is not the author
because it is written in the third person.
And then you have to take it back to the generation by the statement "Mrs.
McChett married mother's grandfather" I doubt it was a man who did the
writing, the handwriting is female I believe - so the author would be a
daughter of one of Gabriel's granddaughters.
Let's see who wants to be a detective.
I have one more clue that may help but till isn't definitive. I didn't pot
it because it was added by someone else in a different handwriting at a
later date.
The fan was found by a 'good Samaritan' at an estate sale in Florida. He
just looks for these things and when I identified Amanda he sent it to me. I
guess he found me through the website.
