Subject: {not a subscriber} Gabriel Carman's line
Acquired the following piece of paper containing the following notes on it.
It is in the form of a small fan with a picture of a young lady on it. It
appears to have been written out in 1881, possibly some notes taken during
the grand Carman Family Reunion in Hempstead, but that is unproven for now.
They are thoughts written out on a note pad, so not always fluid in context.
side 1, 1 - "Elbert Carman, Glass Blower, h-290 E. Washington St.,
Syracuse... John & Florence Carman were the first ones from England"
side 1, 2 - "Gabriel [then crossed out and continued with] William Indlam
Trimmell"
side 1, 3 - "Amanda Carman or Terry, her children - John W. Terry b. 13 June
1843 {little note scribbled} 38 now; Rufus K Terry b. 1 of July 1845; John
Terry 410 Broadway, Calhoun, Robbins & Co."
side 1, 4 - "Mr. George Prankhard, 324 Grand St, Says he has been there
nearly 49 years & when he came Old Mr. Grillard would sit in the front door
opposite. He died about 40 years ago. Retsie died nearly 21 or 22 years
ago."
side 1, 5 through 7 - blank
side 1, 8 - "Retsie B. Grillard married a Robbert Vail, 2 sons, one Robbert
+ _____... then married a Spencer no children. Vail's buildings 1872.
Roberts 3 sons Charlie, Robert [then crossed out Robert] Frank + Aaron"
side 1, 9 - "The Carman boys need not have settled with his Mcbett if they
had of known she was to have been married but she made them believe she was
tired & wanted to settle."
side 1, 10 - "Trummons fancy store between Orchard + Sidlow, same side
Riddley on Grand around the corner in Orchard, E. P. Trummond & Co., 5
stories"
side 1, page 11 - "Capt Terry made the first successful attempt to cross the
Isthmus in 1849. Amanda Carman was married to Capt Terry May 22 1839. Sencus
B. Terry by Henry Chase"
side 1, page 12 - "New Orleans, May 4, 1847. Capt Terry of the frig Predraza
lately arrived from Chagres, died in this city today with Cholera. Death of
Capt Terry of frig Pedraza. Sailed from New Orleans to San Francisco.
