Subject: {not a subscriber} Carman/Dunn
Dear Carman List,
I am new on your list, but would like to know if any of you have any
information on these people that might help me to solve some mysteries. I am
aware that there are marriages between the NJ Carman and Dunn Families.
There are also marriages between the Dunn and Runyon families.
I am trying to find the parents of two people who were in Orange Co. NY b
about
1750
1. Moses Carpenter b. ab 1750 married Elizabeth Runyon, about 1774 dau of
Richard and Jane (Van Court) Runyon of Morris Co. NY. Moses was the executor
of the estate of Phineas DUNN of Goshen, Orange Co. in ab 1780. Phineas wife
was Anne and he had dau Elizabeth and Zeruiah mentioned in his will,
apparently no sons were mentioned in the will, although there were other
males by the name of Dunn in Or. Co. at that time.
Can anyone tell me which Phineas Dunn this might be?
Runyons were related to Dunns at that time and so too were the Carmans.
I have the abstract of the will of Richard Carman 1768 of Woodbridge which
mentions Abigail wife of Hugh Dunn and a grand daughter Margaret Dunn. I
also have the FTM CD which has Jeremiah Dunn m 1747 to Margaret Carman and
has a son Phineas Dunn with a w Jane?
The Carpenter book states that Moses Carpenter's parents were Ruth Coe and
John Carpenter from Jamaica, L I. We have been unable to find a Ruth Coe who
could have married a John Carpenter. You may know that there was also a
Carman/Abigail Coe marriage in LI
2. Carman Carpenter was a contemporary of Moses Carpenter in Orange Co.,
N.Y. I can find no information on him to connect him with Moses except that
they were on the same tax roll in 1775 and both have been impossible to place.
I am vaguelly considering the possibility that either or both of the above
could be descended from Joseph Carpenter who may have been a neighbor or in
some way related to the Drakes or Hoaglands.
I would appreciate any information or clues that you might have to help us
solve these mysteries.
Thank you,
Phoebe
