Wayne,
I think you're on to something regarding this Baltus Van Kleeck, and I'm
going to join you on this shaky limb, and hope that some LAWRENCE and/or
PELL researchers can either confirm or deny the following speculation.

The 2nd marriage date for Baltus Van Kleeck Sr (bpt 1723) to Ann
Lawrence is 24 Jul 1770 (NY DRC). It has been speculated that young
Baltus mentioned in the will of Baltus Sr (dated 18 Mar 1783 & proved 7
Mar 1785 in Flushing) is the son of his father's 2nd marriage (he is
referred to as not being of age), and not the son of Sara Van Varick.
>From the will of his father, we know that Baltus Jr's STEP-SISTERS were
Jacoba Carman and Elizabeth Wiltsee.
We have yet to identify ANN LAWRENCE, the 2nd wife of Baltus Van Kleeck
Sr. Is this her maiden name, or is she the widow of a LAWRENCE???
Here's my theory:
I believe her to be Ann PELL, b 2 Oct 1743 in Westchester County, NY,
daughter of Caleb Pell. This Ann Pell married NORRIS LAWRENCE ca 1764,
and had children (surname Lawrence) as follows:
1. Mary, b 9 Oct 1765 [could she have married Burling Martin???]
2. Hannah, b 21 Sep 1767 [married JONATHAN DRAKE abt 1788]
2. Norris, b 15 Feb 1769
Norris Lawrence Sr was born 6 Nov 1737 in Flushing, the son of Richard
Lawrence and Hannah Bowne. He is said to have died 10 Jul 1769, abt 6
months after the birth of his son Norris.
It would therefore be logical for his widow, Ann (Pell) Lawrence to have
married (as her 2nd husband) Baltus Van Kleeck in 1770, who then was the
widower of Sara Van Varick.
And finally, it would appear that Balthus (Jr) of the will posted above,
is therefore referring to his STEP-SISTERS Hannah Drake & Mary Martin.
Comments welcome
