Thank you for the quick reply, this is so exciting. I would love to have the info you
have on this family (dates & places of birth, death, marriage, spouse names, etc). I
just found out about Isaac Carman winning the Medal of Honor in the Civil War. Wow,
pretty impressive.
I did not have any info on your grandfather Alden Carman as being one of sons of Isaac
and Rhoda (altho I am just getting started in researching this family) so would really
appreciate knowing more about him. Also the dau Edith you mentioned- was she also called
Rachel- I found a Rachel E. Carman- born Dec 10, 1870 in OH who was dau of Isaac-is this
Edith?
As mentioned, I am tracing out Isaac's son Fred. D. Carman (unknown what the D stands
for in his middle name).
Do you know if Isaac's son Fred D. Carman (married Elsie Keesee in Indiana) was the
only one who ended up in Indiana? If so, any idea how he ended up there?
I also don't have an exact date of death for Fred D. Carman-sometime 1930-1933, in
either Martinsville in Morgan County, IN or in Crawfordsville in Montgomery County, IN but
he is supposedly buried with his wife Elsie in Montgomery County, IN, she died in 1958.
Hope to get an obit for his wife Elsie in March when I am in Indianapolis for a week (the
state library there has microfilm of all or most of the newspapers published in any county
in Indiana, I like to get obits as much as possible of the people I'm researching).
Also, any idea why William and Charlotte (Isaac's paretns) ended up in Lewis County,
Missouri? I found them in 1870 census in Canton, Lewis County, Missouri, with Willliam
age 50, Charlotte (altho sp of her 1st name on census page is hard to read) age 48, and
children- John W- age 15 (b. abt 1855 in OH), Joseph- age 11- (b. abt 1859 in OH),
Harriet- age 7 (b. abt 1863 in OH), Charles (? if this is Thomas)- age 5 (b. abt 1865 in
OH), and son Lewis- age 23 (b. abt 1847 in OH) and ? wife Catherine- b. abt 1842.
Also, any idea who parents of William Carman who married Charlotte Challender were? I
know that Isaac was born in New Jersey, right, and that his father William was probably
born in Monmouth County, NJ, but I am unclear beyond that on the Carman lineage? Is the
Carman family from England or Germany?
Do you have any photos of Isaac and his children-if so, would love to get copy of them if
possible. You can use my personal e-mail for replies if you prefer-

Have you seen the photos of Isaac and his son Dr. William Carman and others taken in
Vicksburg in May 1905 at the dedication of the Ohio 48th monument for the battle of
Vicksburg that is located on the Ohio 48th Web site:

Do you know what ever happened to Isaac Carman's Medal of Honor- does someone in the
family still have it? I would ove to see a photo of it.
Isaac's son Fred D. Carman and wife Elsie had at least 5 children, one of who was Fred
Edwin Carman (he was born in Calif- only one of their children born there- rest were born
in Indiana). Fred Edwin Carman (born May 19, 1913, Brawley, CA, Imperial County, died
March 31, 1962, Fowler, IN, Benton County, buried Fowler Cem, Fowler, IN) Married in 1933
in Martinsville, IN, Morgan County to Imogene Bertha Cramer (b. Dec. 13, 1913,
Martinsville, IN, died Sept. 26, 2006, age 92 in Fowler, IN), and they had 5 children.
One of their daughters Sandra Kay Carman married in 1968 in Benton County, IN to Howard I.
Cox. Their son Tim married my niece, Stacy Bickle in 2006, and they just had their 1st
child, a daughter born Dec 10, 2009, my great-niece. As a birth present, I am doing a
genealogy book on the combined Carman - Cox families, hence my posts on this message
board. Appreciate any info anyone has. Karen Everdon--- keverdon(a)yahoo.com
