Today I happened across the vital records which appear to be taken out of a good sized
family Bible. These pages belonged to a dear friend who recently passed away. The two
pages (2 pages, front and back" are loaded with entries of the Carpenter, Remsen,
Bennet, Carman surname. It appears from the entries that it was started by the Carpenter
family, earliest entry is 1836, with the Marriage of George Carpenter and Sarah Ann
Bennet. Other names in the entries include "SEARLES; HENDRICKSON; SMITH; TILTON;
CARMAN. It includes such localities as CA; CO; IA, but mostly these people are from the
Town of Jamaica, LI. They are in very fragile condition. A slip of paper tucked inside
shows a direct line from my late friend (she was 90), and her descent through this family,
and gives additional earlier information as to her RHODES connection, starting with a RUTH
RHODES, born 1752. I will be happy to share the information if anyone is interested. I was
surprised to see that she !
and I were even remotely related.
