Thank you for your response. Nannie Iola Carman Sisler, born April 3, 1908, is still living here in Oregon. Her memory is fairly sharp concerning the past, and it is quite interesting to listen to her details of family history. She tells it like it was, and it may not please everyone to know all the little details, but it sure increases the pleasure in listening.

Book 12, whose title page is Richard Carman, Alexander Carman, Nathaniel Carman, Nicholas Carman - Sullivan County, does not contain a reference to Elijah Carman. Were the name appears is a couple of pages later and Stillwell originally wrote ____ Carman as father of Richard and Alexander. Someone at a lter date wrote in Elijah and the ink doesn't match, and then someone else has crossed out Elijahand written in John (depending on where you got your ccopy from). Book 15 which is Elijah's book is actually in the handwriting of Ezra Ayres Carman and not Stillwell. I was Elijah Jr. who said his father had 13 children by his first wife, and "is said in the family" one move to Livingston Manor. Elizabeth states Elijah had 14 chidlren one of which died young by his first wife. But as mentioned the name Alexander is not mentioned at all. So it is circumstantial and not a lead pipe cinch.
For those who are not familiar with the discusion on Stillwell and his journals, you can get an idea about them at http://www.carman.net/journals.htm where I have listed the books which comprise the work and a couple of pages of the hand written manuscript so you get a feel of what is being discussed.
Judy Cassidy <Jamescassidy22(a)cs.com> is looking for information on the
parents of Ann Dorlon m. Thomas Carmen ca 1792. Can anyone oblige? With
a copy to list if you would.
