Subject: [ORIGINAL-13] A DeHAVEN involved with my STOCKHAMs...
I don't for a moment claim my STOCKHAMs connect to the 13 settling
families, etc. However, in an article in a reprint of George Reeser
Prowell's History of Camden County (NJ), I just spotted a DeHAVEN
reference... Excerpting the portion from page 512, talking about
the lumber interests of Camden City:
"The steam saw-mill, planing-mill and lumber-yard at the foot of
Vine Street, now owned and operated by Mr. Charles Stockham, were
originated by Dock, Ott & De Haven in the year 1852. They previously
had operated the Carman mill. Messrs. Dock, Ott & De Haven continued
in the business but a short time, when Mr. De Haven purchased the
entire interest and the ground upon which the mills and yard were
situated, and in 1859 disposed of them to Charles Stockham and his
brother, John Stockham [my great-great grandfather]."
Note: Although there is more information on the Carman enterprises,
I did not see mention of the De Haven name in connection with it.

Nelson Dean: Info is great except that I tried that ancestry board and it
won't come up for me. If YOU can retrieve it, the Carman grandsons and
grandaughters are desparately searching for Maria, Sally , Edmond and
Samuel's parents and where they are from. Any help. and are you related?
Edmond and Lois Bailey are our great, grandparents. Thanks for any help. Bev.

I would like what you may have on Ira and Ema. They are my husband's gr gr gr grandparents ( hope I got enough gr in there ) through Lula Viola CARMAN. Of course it took looking at Lula's death record in Monona Co. to figure this out. So her parental information is new to me. Grandma kept telling me Lulu was born in Pottawaski Co. near Councils Bluff but seems she is mistaken ;)- I have looked at the bio in Harrison Co. and have booked marked it. I will gladly exchange what I know about Lula and her family forward for info on her family backwards.

Some 12-18 months ago there was a thread of messages pertaining to Carmans of Grove, Allegany Co., NY. The thread sought the parents of three siblings:
Maria Carman, b circa 1800; m Heman Parker.
Sally Carman, born circa 1801; m Riley Parker.
Edmond Carman; m Lois Bailey, b circa 1815.
The "Centennial History of the Town of Nunda, 1808-1908," by H. Hand Wells, has a section on the Parkers of Grove-Nunda, pages 194-195. The section is transcribed at this site:
http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/message/an/localities.northam.usa.state...
According to the above work by Wells, Riley Parker and Heman Parker married sisters of Samuel Carman of Nunda, Livingston Co., NY. Riley's wife is identified as Sally Carman. The given name of Heman's wife is not given.
1880 census records of Maria (Carman) Parker and Sally (Carman) Parker indicate both of their parents were born in NY.

This site, which is new to me, has maps of the changing county borders for
the New England States and NY, NJ, PA, IN, OH, IL, MI.
The maps are clear. and well indexed.
Other categories of information are apparently planned, but may not yet
have been added.
