Looking for any and all info that speaks to the Carman ancestry that include
African Americans. Info that bridges the relationships between slave owner

Yes, I will try to see what I can find for you about this line. There are
researchers who follow the line, whether or not it is their own, and I am
sure they will be interested to find descendants.
More later--

My gg grandmother was Mary Jane Carman, dau. of Benjamin S. Carman and Phebe Weeks Carman. She married Benjamin C. Dake, resided in Middle Grove, Town of Greenfield, Saratoga Co. and had a large family. The 1865 Census for Greenfield, Saratoga Co shows her parents, Benjamin S. and Phebe Carman as well as other Carman family. She had 13 siblings, and I would be happy to name them for anyone who would like that information. I have no history of her family beyond her father Benjamin S. Carman, who was born May 18, 1788 location unknow. Note: it is spelled variously as Carman and Carmen.

Thanks for your interest and your question is very valid.
The boards are in the process of being merged with the Ancestry boards
and searching and exposure will be improved -- its just taking time to
accomplish the indexing.

The formal way to submit a query is to use the GenConnect/Ancestry Boards.
This really makes your query accessible to more search engines and to
those not on the mailing list. Its best to put the given names,
location and dates and to add any surnames from the message itself
in the surname box.
These board are accessible from the main Rootsweb page by scrolling down
the left side.

Hi, Patricia - two really dumb questions in my ongoing attempt to understand
the activity:
1. Why are most of the Carman messages I get only email addresses? Where
should I be going for the actual info?
2. Is this (the original email) the format for a surname inquiry?
Thanks! --Sali

Thanks to all who responded. If anyone has any other info I would appreciate
it. The Samuel Carman I am looking for lived in Nunda NY around 1850. Had a
sister named Sally who married a Parker. And possibly a brother Edmund. I am
trying to find where this family came from. Edmund died around 1850. Was
married to Lois Bailey from Vermont. Edmund supposedly was born in Cayuga
County NY. He died young. probably around 50 or so. ?? Thanks Bev. Ohio
Patricia: I see Samuel Carman in this subject line. Do you have any info on
the Samuel Carman. I am desperatly trying to track down a Samuel Carman line.
Bev. Ohio
The only Sanford I have married to an Edith is Sanford G. Carman - he
was born 5 nov 1922 in Lakeview and died in Baldwin, Long Island on 1
sep 1990.
Sound like him? (there are other Sanfords)
George
The " {not a subscriber} " in the subject line shows that a post to the
list was forwarded to me, the admin, and I, in turn forward it to the
list.
This means that the post will appear in the archives under my email
address -- I dont have "by way of listowner" capability.
{PML mention} Means that a post containing the word "Carman" was forwarded
to me as a former sponsor of Rootsweb, and I have forwarded it to the
list. Again, it will appear in the archives with my email address, and any
reply should be send to the actual sender -- and, hopefully, to the list,
if it doesnt give personal information about living people.
A third category of indirect posts to the list, which will be implemented
"real soon now". are posts gatewayed from the GenConnect/Ancestry query
and other boards (wills, marriages, military, pensions, deaths, church
records, bible records, etc.).
These board messages will have powerful new search and navigation features
which will be a real improvement for users as soon as the features are
"stabilized".
The boards will be searchable by the general public, as they have been in
the past.

Please get in touch with me regarding Samuel at slschroe(a)intrepid.net. In Greendale Cemetery in Meadville, PA in the Frazier lot there are several Elliotts buried. My uncle told me they were related to Lettu Carman. Do we connect on them?
