Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Hmmm-- just a mention of this -- but might be a clue for someone, sometime

You are more than welcome to post these. I have not finished the entire

Patricia,
This month alone, I sent 25 genealogical posts
to this list.
You posted one!
2 came from the gateway! The originator is not
on the list that I know of.
So why do you keep harassing me? Lists have rules
and to my knowledge I have not violated any for Carman-l
in the past 10 days to have my email restricted!
Again what is the problem?
You have moved subscribers away from Carman-Roots and pointed
to this list Carman-L as the main list. Are you moving everyone
elsewhere in future? Is that what caused this ruckus? The fact
that you might move the list off of Rootsweb?
The last message I sent before having my email to the
list restricted read as follows: (Do tell what was wrong with
the post??)

Subject: [CARMAN-L] Another Carman Genealogy list on Egroups!
Another list appears to be active on
egroups. However, despite the close
naming convention, it is not the more
popular list with 100 subscribers.
This list is located at:
http://www.egroups.com/group/carman
Don't get your hopes up. I have spent
four days trying to subscribe. No answer
from the moderator.
However, the web page solicits subscribers!
"For friendly people of good will who are
compiling information on the Carman surname"
Gee that phrase sounds familiar!
This egroup list was established in September of 1998 with
no messages sent till the year 2000!
So far this year: 2 posts in Jan
2 posts in Feb
1 post in Apr
2 posts in Jun
3 posts in Jul (after my sub request)
There are currently 3 members on this list.
I guess the question to ask....Patricia is this yet
another list of yours and do you intend to have the subscribers
from CARMAN-ROOTS-L and CARMAN-L at rootsweb move to this
new list???
Warmest regards, Dan
Patricia,
If this message makes it to Carman-l then you
have imposed a restriction on my regular email account
from sending to the list. This a new subscription.
Therefore, I would like to know why my email has been
restricted and why it was not addressed to me!
Depending what mood your in doesn't warrant placing
somebody's access to a mail list on the restricted list.
If there is a stated policy or forbidden topic than
so state. It is customary to also provide warnings!
Nobody was restricted when I was flammed on the list
in May!
So what is the story??? Dan

Patricia,
There seems to be a problem with one of
your two rootsweb mail lists. Carman-Roots is
fine but messages are not going to the list
on Carman-l. Is there a configuration problem
or have you imposed moderating mode again?
This message sent via the Genconnect gateway.
Warmest regards, Dan
Does anyone have information on or parents of Rebecca Nearing, who married
Jeheil Carman born April 13, 1768 to Elijah Carman and Elizabeth Bloodgood?
For that matter does anyone have parents of Elizabeth Bloodgood or Ann Denton,
mother of Elijah and wife of William? Thanks in advance.
Dan

Excite has now been joined to Ancestry!
http://ancestry.excite.com/
Yes, the excite search engine now part
of the MyFamily.com family!
The complete press release was online
yesterday (Yes, you guessed it! Yahoo.com!)
http://biz.yahoo.com/prnews/000705/ca_myfamil.html
The Headlines read:
"New Excite@Home Partnership Strengthens MyFamily.com
Position as Leading Genealogy Resource"
"Co-Branded Site Brings Ancestry.com's 600 Million
Records to Excite Users"
I guess the important question to pose to the
ROOTSWEB division, would be, how long before redistribution
means the archives to the list is moved to other servers on
ancestry and the like??
Reported in the Business news article released
on the 22nd of June on the Rootsweb merger,
the President of the NGS had this to say.
"Despite the renewed public interest in
family history that the Web has sparked,
Shirley Langdon Wilcox, president of the
National Genealogical Society, said she
worries about the online genealogy industry
consolidating into the hands of the for-profit
players.
"There are a lot of people who have been doing
research for a long time that are concerned
that sometimes the for-profit [companies] are
not as interested in scholarly research and
making sure everything is correct," Wilcox
says. "They sort of gloss over that you need
to go out and verify everything you're finding
on the Internet.""
