A possible clue in the forename Bliss? There was a Loyalist BLISS
family in NB; George Pidgeon BLISS m. Sarah WETMORE, d/o Thomas
WETMORE and Sarah PETERS. George and Sarah were the matl GPs of
Bliss CARMAN, the poet.
Yrs aye,

When I started researching my Carman genealogy a blood cousin sent me this
published information:
Carman

Crest --The helmet of a knight, or,
Among the lists of names of persons entered in Domesday Book "holding
lands in the time of King Edward the Confessor" (A.D. 1041-1064) we find a
John Seman and a John Karman {also as Carman) living in the County of
Surrey, in adjoining hundreds, and where the respective families were
"possessed of domains, manors and others of the forms of properties of
that time" (viz., 1042), and with this year the authentic records and
tracings of their families begin. There is no mention of either name in
the Domesday records of any of the other counties embraced therein."
Now the Domesday book is online and I can quickly see a digital
transcription of the original work with a yahoo search for Domesday book.
Great conversation but is it true. We dont know actually, but there is
not current proof that it is and contemporary scholarship appears to
indicate that it is now.
To be continued --
Actually, what first sparked by interest was a mistaken entry in a book
about the origin of New York streets, a book written by someone I knew

In this particular case, would this Jacob be related to Waters' son Jacob?

David--
Glad to see you are reading the PML posts
The exact URL for the post is
http://archiver.rootsweb.com/MACE-L/2000-06/msg0001.html
When I get the PML notification of a post to a mailing list the URL is not
included. The posts are indexed to the threaded archives by the next
day usually. It takes a couple of days for them to be indexed to the
interactive search at
http://searches.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/listsearch.pl where you would search
the Mace list for the word 'Carman'
This particular post is not yet there.
Posts to the GenConnect Boards have a URL given in the notification.
Sorry that I cant retransmit the posts directly, but only Rootsweb itself
has the right to do that. The volume of PML notifications for the lists I
manage is too great for me to be able to wait until the URLs are
available, obtain them and then send the notification with the URL

The Rootsweb site has even more search engines listed, and I again
recommend the new metasearch engine.
Please post any suggestions or tips you have; make subject lines as
briefly meaningful as possible; and enjoy your search.
