Two letters of James A. Carman from Confederate prisons
James A. Carman, 1864
James A. Carman was a private in the 107th Pa. His two letters to his
father offer a Union soldier's perspective on life in the Confederate

Thanks
Does anyone have any information on this Joseph Carman and apparently his
son Joseph O, who appear to have been tenants on a plantation in
Newfoundland in 1720.

This database of Illinois Civil War Veterans indexes the first eight
volumes of the nine volume publication,Report of the Adjutant General of
the State of Illinois. (The ninth volume lists veterans of Black
Hawk,Mexican, and Spanish-American Wars.) This 1900-1901 publication,
originating from the rosters maintained during the Civil War by the
Illinois Adjutant General, is the result of an 1899 Illinois statute
mandating that a corrected version of these records and subsequent
publications be printed. The names of approximately 250,000 men,
organized into 175 regiments, are found in its pages. The work includes
a roster and history for each regiment.
The database was created and donated to the Illinois State Archives by
Fred Delap of Kansas, Illinois. Delap, a volunteer with the Edgar
County Genealogical Society, spent two years of evenings and weekends
compiling the index on his personal computer. Delap has also indexed the
names of Illinois veterans of the War of 1812, Black Hawk War, Mexican
War and Spanish-American War.

Can someone tell me where I can find the following records in Greene County,
NY, if possible:
Birth or Babtism Records in 1813 to 1816.
Death Records from 1833.
Cemetery Records from 1833.
Deed Records from 1813 to 1842.
I am trying to find proof of my CARMAN family who lived in Cairo, Greene
County from 1813 to 1842. I have tons of letters and information about the
area in the letters, but no vital records.
Joseph Carman, re-married there in 1834 (I did find a record for this)
Mina (Leete) Carman, died there in 1833
Joseph "Gardiner" Carman, born there in1819
Lydia Leete Carman, born there in 1816
Chester Dudley lived there too and later married Lydia, a 1st cousin.
Thanks,
Matt Carman
