"John R. (sic for John C.) Carman of LI was brought
to gaol in this town for the murder in Fishkill of
Timothy Sackrider. It seems they had been drinking
freely together on Friday, when a quarrel arose
between them and Carman, having seized a gun,
requested Sackrider several times to beg his pardon,
which being refused Carman discharged the gun and drove
the contents through his body a little below the navel.
On seeing Sackrider was killed he fled, but soon after
returned and gave himself up to a constable at his
own house, where the murder was committed. Sackrider
lived with him." [Poughkeepsie Journal Newspaper 9 July
1794]. The paper of 10 June noted his sentence. He
was guilty of manslaughter and fined L50 and three
months in jail. He is poss. the John C. Carman of Rev.
