Geraldine --
Couldnt get right back to you. The John Carmen of Hempstead information
is really that of John Carman. His birthdate is known from the Trask
transcription of the Rev. John Eliot of Roxbury MA records. His will was
transcribed and gives the names of his children. He lived in Hempstead
and owned land there and in some of the surrounding towns. His son
Samuel-3 moved to New Jersey and my Illinois line descends from that
Middletown New Jersey line.
But--
I am not familiar with the Carmen's you mention and I cannot tell you if
they are from the same original family of John-1 and Florence Carman.
John-1 was one of the original proprietors of Hempstead. It is usually
assumed that he came from England. He was a freeman in Boston
(Massachusetts Bay Colony) and a member of the Court there in 1636.
There is controversy as to whether there were one or two John Carmans in
MBC and whether the references in Lynn and Plymouth are to the same person
who signed the original deed for Hempstead in 1643.
For me part of the interest in the genealogy is sorting out the documents
and the writings from 19c and earlier which are questioned now.
There are lots of questions and many answers and even more opinions.
Hope to hear more --
Regards
Patricia
