Yes, this naming of the new place for the old place was a common pattern
in US migrations. You often find "Concord MA", "Concord PA",
"Concord OH",
"Concord MI", "Concord IL", "Concord IA", etc, at least
sporadically and
casually settled by some cluster of people who were related or friendly from
elsewhere, at least in the early years of the settlement. It, of course,
does not mean that an individual or family would be traceable this way. But
if you have otherwise hit a solid brick wall, it's worth a shot.
The first family/group/association would name the place. But often
those moving west afterward would settle near someone they had known,
whether family or old neighbors. We use the term "needing a support group"
nowadays, but really don't understand how crucial that was to your survival,
and the survival of your kids in the days gone by.
