Looking at the Islip records, and see William and Mary Terry with children
Ruth b. Islip 1775, Samuel b Islip 27 Aug 73, Gloriana 9 Feb 1779, William
b 7 June 1781 all recorded on December 5, 1782. Looks like this would be
Mary Carman -- what do you think? Also, all children baptized at same
time. Minister just arrived? Do you have any information on the
political afiliation of this group?

Thank you very much. It certainly fills in a hole.
I just received a copy of "Baptisms at Islip L.I. 1782-1789, which was
printed in the NYG&B Record Vol 121 (July 1990).
with some Carmans mentioned . I believe this is from an original record
that came to light recently.
For some reason the area known as Fireplace (Brookhaven -South Haven
hamlets) seems to have a lot of 1700s roots. The church there was moved
from its Carman's River site to the Brookhaven area 4 or 5 miles west in
the 60s or 70s This was the church that Daniel Webster attended when he
came out here to fish in Carman's River. There is a somewhat famous
painting of him with a very large fish he caught. The graveyard of
course remained behind. It has a NY marker on the road. Regards,
Van
