I find a Carman/Ketcham marriage
Joseph CARMAN (Samuel-6 m. Catherine HOMAN) 1812 m. Abigail KETCHAM
More on Carman's River Carmans from Werner's
Long Island. His book is a revision of
Thompsons 1843 work. This is another widely
quoted compendium from a different century
that some contemporary genealogists do not
agree with completely.
Samuel Carman-4 of Fireplace, brother to
Silas-4 is supposed to have been the son of
Caleb-3 together with John-3, Thomas-3
(called Dumb Tom) Joseph-3, Samuel-3 and
Joshua-3 were sons of John-2 son of John-1
the emigrant. He left I Samuel-5 and 2
Hannah-5 md. Willliam Smith and had
Sylvester-6 William-6 and Lydia-6 married lst
to David Floyd, 2nd to Egbert Tangier Smith)
and Docea-6 md. Seth Smith. This branch of
the family gave its name to Carmans River,
which rising at Middle Island, Town of
Brookhaven, flows south into the Great South
Bay at Fireplace.
William Stillwell Carman, a Carman
genealogist, places these generations as
Caleb-3, Caleb-4, Samuel-5, Samuel-6, with
Docea as Theodosia CARMAN-7 married Seth SMITH. He
does not include Lydia.
