A quick short follow-up to the issue of policies
on Carman Genealogical Lists on Rootsweb. I have
made inquires to a number of subscribers to both
Carman-Roots and Carman-l on Rootsweb over the past
year and the following points support my statement
earlier about equal representation.
First of all a number of issues addressed to
the Carman-Roots list have remained unanswered to
the list. This is an interesting point since the
list has been fairly inactive for over a year. At
one point the list was requested by a new person to
be list manager/owner and the request was refused because
the list was considered active after Rootsweb made an
inquiry to the present listowner.
Carman-Roots has solicited people to subscribe via the
Carman Cluster page for the past year. Yet several
people upon subscribing were told the list was closed!
The most recent was late Dec99/early Jan 00.
I tried to subscribe to Carman-l this week but my
subscription was ignored. It is apparent that the
subscriptions are being screened for that list whereas
Carman-Roots is automatic. It is also apparent from the
archived postings that messages sent to Carman-l are being
screened by the listowner before being sent on to the list.
The messages are not redirected under the name of the poster
but rather forwarded under the name of the listowner.
My question to all this, What is the difference in
purpose between Carman-Roots and Carman-l at Rootsweb.
Some subcribers were denied permission to join the lists this
past year because they had web based mail accounts. Is this
true??
Just some thoughts and queries, which answers are
beneficial to everyone. No comment is solicted from anyone
other than the list owner, who can provide the answers to
these questions.
