Dan has asked for an answer which he feels will benefit everyone
as to the status of the Carman-Roots and Carman mailing lists at Rootsweb.
The best answer is that both are in the process of change.
Last year both lists were moderated and subscriptions were closed. As a
beta test, near the beginning of January both lists were changed to
unmoderated with open subscriptions. The AUP and FAQs, with the addition
of R. Neep's House article were adopted as guides or rules, and only the
standard welcome letters were sent.
This created trouble on both lists. The experiment continues with
Carman-Roots, but Carman-L subscriptions are now closed and the list is
moderated.
There are so many new developments on the net, at Rootsweb, and in
services, cost, software and hardware which will soon impact thecharacter
of the lists, that I cannot make any predictions for the future.
