Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Easier said than done. When all lists were made permanently archivable,
this list became redundant, and its certainly dormant.
We'll see what happens in July.

Gee Ray,
You must rate on this list. I haven't had a response
to an issue, question, or genealogical query from the listowner.
Thanks Patricia for letting me that you still here as the
listowner and it is simply a matter of choice that you are not
responding to a myriad of genealogical questions and concerns.

Ray,
This list is not even supported. Take a look at the activity
level. March and April, no posts. May I posted but they weren't added
to the achives because of gliche. Through June 16th, nothing. The
list owner doesn't even post on this list, genealogy messages.
If you note the tag line that is provided by the listowner for this list,
your
directed to use Carman-l, which again I have been given read only status.
My offense, having an opinion.
If you don't care to read my posts, then trash them or you can unsubscribe.
Am I using this forum as soapboax? Yes, I am but within the topic areas
that
are introduced by the listowner. I am within topic. So again you have
choices that you can make. I use filters on my email.
You had the option of addressing your point of view via private email
or using the list. You chose the list. That is just as much your right as
it is my right to post also. Thanks for addressing your opinion, your
entitled
as so am I.
Warmest regards, Dan

The following listowner recently made
comment on redistribution. However, I did not see any
information on the public archive side (yet) related
to a policy change mentioned by Patricia. It should
be noted that there were only about 20 posts on the
listowners group discussing the merger before the topic
was axed by the list-admin stating further posting on
concerns about the merger will get you a one week
suspension from the list! <hmm>. This post is on topic
since the listowner initiated it!
Jeffery G Scism, Jeffery G., email dated 21 June 2000, to
the Listowners-l mailist on rootsweb, "future concerns."
"The Use policy specifically indicates redistribution rights necessary
for the posting of the data on the mail lists (Redistribution to
subscribers), the parameters of Redristribution are not limited. POLICY
of Rootsweb under Brian and Karen can be easily changed by the new
"management" of Ancestry.com, promises are not binding, and as a specific
"contract" between the listowners really isn't in force, only an
agreement to host certain services for different sponsorship levels,
which Brian and Karen abided by, Ancestry has (publically) no requirement
to abide by these agreements. These services provided by Rootsweb
are/were a courtesy."
This annoucement was just passed via the

Patricia,
You have posted to Carman-l a post related
to redistribution rights.
Tidmarsh, Patricia, email dated 24 June 2000, to
Carman-L mail List, "[CARMAN-L] Redistribution Rights."
This issue also affects the membership of this
list, which you are also the list owner.
In your post you stated,
"A point on which Rootsweb and Ancestry policies
differ is redistribution."
Yet you don't state what point the two commericial
companies differ. What is the point of difference?
You go on to state that:
"I believe that Rootsweb redistribution policy will
continue for all posts and contributions before June 30, 2000,
and probably through December 2000 But that there might
be a change which all posters will be made aware of.."
You evidently have information regarding the changes since
you have provided dates and approximate dates but what are
the proposed changes?? You have basically told the list
There will be changes but without stating what they are!
I'm sure we would all like to know.
Warmest regards, Dan

Patricia Tidmarsh has just put out some more info on the Merger
Tidmarsh, Patricia, email dated 23 June 2000, to Carman-L at
Rootsweb Mail List, "Rootsweb/Ancestry Merger."
I still don't understand why certain posts go to Carman-l and
most do not go to this list but that is an outstanding question.
She stated that Brian said (I am assuming Mr. Leverich).
"In the middle of the week it was announced that MyFamily.com had bought
out Rootsweb and that Ancestry an and Rootsweb would merge. Brian and
Karen assured all that Rootsweb would remain the same, and access would be
continue to be free."
Patricia also referred to the Rootsweb web page on the subject. See
my previous post on the subject since Patricia simply provided the
Rootsweb homepage.
She also passed a statement that has been issued from Ancestry.
However, I am unsure who was Tawsha that she was thanking.
"Subject: Reply to your recent question about the acquisition of Rootsweb
Date: Fri, 23 Jun 2000 14:51:53 -0600
Dear Tawsha,
Thanks for your recent inquiry. Please accept my apologies that our initial
reply did not address your core questions. Let me try to clarify.
We are very excited about joining forces with RootsWeb. But we are equally
committed to ensuring your experience as a RootsWeb member remains
unchanged.
As you know, the RootsWeb acceptable use policy (AUP) states that we will
not sell user-generated content on the web or though other means without
explicit permission of the user. Further, all content contributed by
RootsWeb members is their content. We intent to honor that policy.
In addition, while we hope you take this opportunity to see what
Ancestry.com has to offer you, we will not require any RootsWeb member to
join Ancestry.com in order to continue enjoying the RootsWeb site.
We expect that you and all other RootsWeb members will see no change in the
experience to which you are accustomed.
Let me know if you have any further questions.

Dave

This extraction is slightly misleading. The Claim was filed
by Michael Carman (A German Carman line) but it was his son,
who served in the King's Royal Regiment of New York. The claim
was for 451 pounds and 18 shillings. Normally payments were made
amounting to one-third the value or less than the actual loss.
In this case 170 pounds was paid to Michael Carman, Jr.!

Don't know where the page is from but reads as so:
........
CONKLIN, Elias, Jr. [BR, 27 Mar. 1850] Marr. in

Evaluation: It would appear that this page was evidently an
index of newspaper articles related to people.
Probably the newspaper was the Broome Republican published
between 1822-1862.

The referred to post neglects to fill in how
through whom the maternal grandparents were linked
to William Bliss Carman. The following from Stanford
University fills in the blank generation!

"Biographical Note
Carman, (William) Bliss 1861-1929
Carman was born in Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada,
on April 15, 1861. He was the son of William Carman and
Sophia Bliss. He graduated from the University of
New Brunswick in 1881 with honors in Latin and Greek.
He received his masters from the University of New

taught school from 1884-1886. Though he traveled some,
he lived in New Canaan, Conn., and he always retained
his Canadian citizenship."
