Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Daniel--
Your arguments are certainly challenging -- please
reread the Neep article on House at http://patricia.
rootsweb.com as well as the first paragraph of the
AUP.
Question number one. I often do not cross-post to
both lists.
Unless there is a time limit involved, posts and the
information contained therein are available the next
day in the threaded or chronological archives, and
within a few days in the interactive search archives.
Question number two -- as you see I am posting to
Carman-Roots, and that should answer your question.
Question number three -- When will the subscriptions
be open again to Carman-L?
--The question of the definition of open and closed
lists is a challenging one and under discussion. I am
endeavoring to find a correct definition in terms of
Rootsweb policy and AUP and the experience of other
list administrators.

Indexes are always pointers for further research, that's why they're so
useful. A county and date clue is a *huge* help. There are plenty of
resources to help you figure out boundary changes over time so you can
at least attempt to find those original records.
I'm immensely grateful to the volunteers who help make these resources
available to "long distance" researchers.
Found a marriage for ancestors in another branch, in 1897 in Jefferson
Co, IL. And it's accurate (I do already have the original, passed down
through family--but if I had only known that they married "in Illinois
in
the 1890's" this would have provided the date/place needed to send for a
copy).
Thanks to Patricia for posting the link.
Caution should be used when extracting information from the
Illinois Marriage Data Base. This is not a primary nor secondary
source of information. Secondly even though, records index make
reference to original source material, the variety of source material
(some unproven information) make a citation to source not always
possible. "When source material lacked volume, page or license number
information, none are provided in the index."
Dates are also important to remember. The online database starts
in 1763! The Illinois area was ceded to England that year after the
French and Indian War. Virginians began to move into the region about
1769. The Illinois Territory was not established till 1809 with the
Wisconsin region begin transferred to Michigan Territory in 1818.
Be mindful that counties were formed at different dates from other
counties or were the original territory. Also records could be in
a different State. (Wisconsin above).

Patricia,
I have noted that you have been posting Carman
related posts to Carman-L the past few days but not
to Carman-Roots. This leads to my previous question on
whether or not your supporting Carman-Roots and when
will the subscriptions be open again for Carman-L??
Since CARMAN-L is active there must be a criteria for
membership???
