It is important to remember when searching for information
on the Carman Surname, that many variations in the spelling
have been used over the past 300 years. Always look for
Carman, Carmen, Carmon, Carmin and yes we have seen
on occasion Carmer and Carmalt also!
Speaking of the Searchable database, Barbara just posted,
this information was extracted on Aaron Carman:
"ITEM #44019
February 2, 1769
The Pennsylvania Gazette
TAKEN out of the stable of AARON CARMAN, the 22d Instant, a sorrel Mare,
six Years old, about 14 Hands and an Inch high, paces and trots, is neither
marked nor branded, has a small Star in her Forehead, a white Spot on one
Ear, a brown Spot on one Side of the Saddle Place, and two white Feet.
Whoever restores the abovesaid Mare to Aaron Carman in Amwell, and secures
the Thief, so that he may be brought to Justice, shall have FOUR POUNDS
Reward, or Forty Shillings for the Mare only, with reasonable Charges, paid
by me
AARON CARMAN."
Now Joyce, be advised that the Aaron from Hunterdon County had a wife by a
different name. I have no information to tie the two as the same man. But
I wouldn't rule it out yet.
