I have posted in the past and placed articles, online, regarding the
John Cannon or Carman who arrived in the Plymouth Colony in
1621 on the "Fortune". A recent web page calls the immigrant,
this individual John Carman. Not
http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~carman/Billington.html
There is no evidence to identify this individual as a Carman
family member and to the contrary information brought to light
by Mr. Henry B. Hoff , "English Origins of American
Colonists: from the New York Genealogical and Biographical
Record" 1991 indicates he was most likely a Cannon
Family Member.
A portion from the article,
"A John Cannon came in the Fortune in 1621, but his name is
not found in the division of cattle in 1627. There was a Cannon
of Sandwich in 1650, perhaps identical with Robert of New
London, 1678...In the church records of Scituate and Barnstable,
19 April 1691, occur the baptisms of John, Philip, Timothy,
Nathan and Elizabeth, children of Joanna Cannon, probably a
widow, who had but recently removed there."
