..If anyone would like to add information about the value of the
farm,Hannah's connection to Martha
and James Woods, please post to the list "
Response:
First the information was published by the New York Historical Society,
"Collections of the New York Historical Society, Abstracts of Wills on File
in the Surrogates Office, City of New York" pp. 360-361. The information
was taken from New York County Wills Liber 27 p. 394 not p. 360.
Martha Woods whose will abstract is transcibed above was Martha Kissam, her
first cousin was
Elizabeth Kissam who married Henry LeStrange/Strange. Elizabeth and Henry
had a daughter, Hannah
Strange, the same Hannah above who married Gabriel Carman. Thus you have
the relationship. This
same Kissam Branch is also tied to the Carman Line of Joshua-3 (John-2,
John-1) Carman through Martha's Father, Daniel Kissam.
The 70 acres bequeathed to Hannah above was not listed as a farm and the
property was subsequently transferred from Hannah and her husband in 1771
to her son, Gabriel Carman, Junior. Although, in the 1771 deed, the
property is listed as part of a "farm lot". This is in Westchester County,
New York.
Hope this was of help.
