I am not the family geneologist. My sister is, so I am always reluctant
to give information as I have no proof in my hand. However, I will tell
you what she has told me.
First, Carmack was often spelled Cormack and McCormack. We know that
the Cormack's were part of the clan Buchanan. And apparently, they were
highanders--although just barely. They were near Lochloman (sp?). I
will see if I can get more specific information and the source she used
to find this, so you can verify for yourself.
Further, I can't tell you whether all the Carmacks were from this region
or not. And we are not far enough in our search yet to verify our
lineage back to Scotland.
As I am sure you know, it's important to have documentation on these
things. It's so easy to let "hear say" information get you off on the
worng track. Does anyone else have documentation on this?
