Replying to the suggestion on standardizing postings...
I the interest of trying to spark discussion and data exchange I would
like
to suggest that we submit our lineage to the list in a simple format with
the basic information (name birthdate, deathdate). This keeps it easy to
sort through and compare/comment on. Then we can fill in any additional
information as needed or requested. ...
At first I thought this was an okay idea, but on reflection I've changed my
opinion. Each researcher is different, and will be looking for different
things; I, for instance, am now trying hard to tie down "proof" things like
wedding dates and places, witnesses to wills, etc.
More importantly, this totally omits the "stories", the snippets of
letters, wills and military records that make the basic factual material
seem dull in comparison.
I also suggest we submit our Lists and
comments to the List as opposed to individual replies. That way we can all
benefit.
This is a good idea, 90% of the time anyway.
