page 1514 "Tilghman L. Grossnickle was married 10-7-1886
to Alice Carmack of WoodsboroDistrict. She is the daughterof Joshua and
Amanda (Eyler) Carmack and was born in Woodsboro District, 2-23-1859.
She acquired her education at Grove Academy and is a member of Haugh's
Lutheran Church. She is themotherof six children: Kansie Grace, was born
8-17-1887, and died 9-17-1894; Mary Key, born 10-11-1889; Joshua Carmack,
born 3-24-1892; Rhoda, born 2-15-1894, and died9-13-1894; Phoebe Ellen,
born 11-19-1897; and Wilbur Luther, born 5-15-1899.
Joshua Carmack, the father of Mrs. Grossnickle was born on theold Carmack
farm, near Haugh's Church, Frederick County, 4-3-1827. He received a
common
school education and followed day laboring. He was married to Amanda
Eyler,
daughter of John and Catharine (Miller) Eyler. Mr Carmack died 8-2-1892
and is buried with his wife at Haugh's Church Cemetary. She died
8-4-1894. They had issue: Mary Catharine who was born 10-31-1856
married Henry Keilholtz and died of
typhoid fever in 1893; and Alice (Mrs. Grossnickle).
John Carmack, the grandfather of Mrs. Grossnickle was engaged in farming
in Woodsboro District, near Detour. He was married to Ida M. Wolf, and
had these children: Hanson, William, John, Ephraim, Joshua, Sophia,
Sarah and Margaret.
