Dale,
I found this information recently. It might be helpful to someone.
A man named Thomas Amis emigrated to the Big Creek area of present-day Hawkins
County around l780. He operated a blacksmith shop, store, distillery, saw
mill and grist mill. His account books name some of the earliest settlers of
Upper East Tenn. The McClung Historical Collection holds 2 of his account
books. They have been microfilmed for use in research.
lst account book (l782-l789) Lists a Cornelius Carmack, the year l786, and the
page nos. 55, l57. Also, John Carmack, the year l784, page no. 87.
2nd account book (l794-l800) Lists Cornelius Carmack, the year l794, page 9.
This information is in "Tennessee Ancestors"-Dec l986-Vol 2-No. 3."
Do you think this is Cornelius, b. Jun l8, l736? Also, which John? I also
have information about a John Carmack who registered land in the Big Creek
area around l780. Probably the same man?
