First it is important to acknowledge that there has been no evidence, or
source, that Christopher is the father of Cornelius. Only circumstantial
evidence. For example the following is about the only argument that I have
seen for it and I think that as long as you state that there is no real
proof then it is ok to suggest a possiblity:
We know that Christopher Carmack arrived in America in 1678 with stated
intentions of residing in Maryland. His place of origin other than Scotland
was not identified. [See the Early Settlers of Maryland by Radoff; page
801, he was transported which meant that someone else paid his way. Quite
often the one transported was under contract to repay the cost of his
transportation by serving his benefactor for a specified period which was
usually indicated in the record by the phrase "transported servant". Page
XI. The record did not indicate that this was the case for Christopher.
Christopher could have been married with a young wife. The record would
have indicated the head of household only. He probably married shortly
after he arrived in America in 1678 and thereafter came to Cecil/Kent Co
Maryland.
No other records were found that mentioned Christopher in the General
Maryland records in Cecil, Kent, Frederick, Prince George Co., Maryland, or
in Salem New Jersey. Conversely he may be found elsewhere.
The date of the birth of Christopher is based on the assumption that he was
in the 20/30 age group when he arrived in America. Identity of his wife and
date of marriage are unknown. The assumption that he is the father of the
later mention children is based on the following:
a. Christopher was the first Carmack on record to come to America. All
efforts so far have produced no Carmack or McCarmack prior to this arrival.
b. He came to Maryland where Cornelius and Peter appear as mature adults.
c. He was apparently the right age to be their father and no other Carmacks
have been discovered in the locality and time period that could have been
their father.
I do not know what to say about the naming convention. Then again this is
only a theory, a problem to be worked...

Subject: Christopher Carmack
Dale and List,
On what do researchers base their assumption that Christopher Carmack
might have been the father of Cornelius Carmack, 1681?
I personally have a problem with this. The way the names were repeated
in the lines, surely there would have been a Christopher somewhere.
I'd like to hear your thoughts on the subject.
