I searched more on the Family Tree Maker and genealogy
Library.com sites and
found the following:
This is Elmore Co. AL Cemetery:
Carmack, Daniel Oscar b.04 MAR 1886 d.19 JAN 1950
Carmack, Francis Josephine b.30 MAY 1887 d.03 DEC 1986
Carmack, James M. b.1861 d.1938
Carmack, Martha J. b.1851 d.1914
Some additional James M. Carmack information:
William J. Bishop made a cash purchase on 1 Mar 1858 of 40 acres of land in
Alabama from the federal government in section 12 and on the same date
bought 120 acres in the adjoining section 1, both in township 19N and range
22E. Furthermore, it appears that for some reason, either the federal
government had a big land sale in that area at that time, or a great many
families came in and bought land in the same area at the same time. Also
making cash purchases on 1 Mar 1858 in those same sections 1 and 12 were:
James M. CARMACK, Everett CANNON, George HARPER, Yancy THORNTON, Mary
FAILES, John M. LAMBERT, Joseph WINNINGHAM, and Leah BLAKE.

AL Census Index
Name State County Location Page Year
Carmack, James M. AL Tallapoosa Co. Township 20 1850
Carmack, James AL TALLAPOOSA CO. WALNUT HILL 156 1860
Carmack, James AL TALLAPOOSA CO. EUFALA 117 1870
I have also attached a graphic file of the 1850 census page. My "guess" at
James' birth location is Georgia. It is difficult to read. If anyone on
the List wants a copy of this 1850 census attachment let me know, the
attachment will not go through the list.
Maybe some of this connects to the James you are searching for.

Dale,
Thanks for your ever-prompt response to our inquiries. We really appreciate
the service you provide. I just took a picture of the tombstone and didn't
write down dates - will have them later - but death date was mid 1800's and
the inscription says very plainly that he was born in Ireland, so he would
not be in the Cornelius line. We have been trying for years to verify the
connection between my gggrandfather George Washington Carmack who died in
Tuscumbia, AL to William Carmack (Cornelius, John, Cornelius1). Perhaps
this James will turn out to be my ancestor instead.
Happy new year!
Ricki

Ricki,
I have two, James M.'s in my data. The first indicates he died in TN so
that is not a match. The other James M. I have that "might" fit is from
the
following family:
Descendants of James Lafayette Carmack
1 James Lafayette Carmack Born: 07 February 1839 in ,Overton Co., TN
Died: 14 May 1911
. +Elizabeth Bilbrey Born: 1822 Died: 1913 in ,,KY
2 James Martin Carmack
2 Columbus Carmack
2 William Truitt Carmack
2 Cordelia Jane Carmack
2 Malinda Sarah Carmack Born: 1875
2 Leonard Carmack Born: 1877
2 Nancy Ann Carmack Born: 1879
You did not mention any dates from the headstone though. Sorry I could not
be more help.

Does anyone have any information on James M. Carmack, who bought land in
the
mid 1800's in Tuscumbia, AL? His tombstone in the big Oakhill
(Oakland?)/Tuscumbia Cemetary says that he was born in Ireland, so he is
probably one of the rare Carmacks who isn't descended from Cornelius.
