Yesterday I ran across the following comment from a post on the Carmack
Genforum:
In notes found at the death of my father-in-law on Carmack: Nettie Carmack
Davis, Thomaston, GA dated 1934 "Three Carmack brothers came from Scotland
and became shipbuilders in or around Baltimore Md. One went to VA, the
other two south"
I have written this person about the reference but it would seem that there
is no more to it than that statement. Since you mentioned "two brothers" I
thought I'd pass it along.
Does anyone have additional information on this?
Thanks Judy for the great material!

Subject: Who was the immigrant?
Dale and List
I've been trying to tie up a few loose ends in my Carmack information
and decided to see what I could find out about Nicholas Painter, the man
who paid for Christopher Carmack (McCarmack's) transportation to the
Colonies.
He was a wealthy landowner in Maryland. On October 25, 1677, Lord
Baltimore granted him 1,640 acres in what was then Baltimore County,
Maryland. At that time Baltimore County included parts or all of what
became Hartford County, Cecil County, Frederick County, and Carroll
Counties in Maryland. This Plantation was called "Andover". In 1861 he
received a patent for 1,400 acres in Cecil County, Maryland. This tract
was called "Friendship". He also owned a plantation which consisted of
1,000 acres called "The Grove" which might have been in Dorchester
County, Maryland.
I also wanted to check my records concerning Daniel Carmack
(Carmake/Cormack). The early Carmack researchers thought he might be
Cornelius' father. According to the Carmack Book, Christopher Carmack
was the first Carmack in America and that is an error. There was only a
footnote mentioning Daniel and he was here quite some time before
Christopher. Daniel was brought to the Colonies in 1654 by Col. John
Matron, who settled in West Moreland County, Virginia. Daniel was
probably a bond servant. I found two other mentions of Daniel in
Virginia, the last one being in 1663. (Wonder if he could have had
anything to do with the North Carolina Carmacks?)
While I was searching for my information concerning Daniel, I came
across some information in the P.H. Carmack data that I had overlooked.
My Dad always told my sister and myself that we were Scotch Irish and
Pennsylvania Dutch and were descended from two brothers who imigrated to
the colonies. The Scotch Irish I believed but the Pennsylvania Dutch-No
Way. Well, I was wrong, that's exactly what we are. But back to the
subject. The story about the two brothers was also known to the early
researchers although they thought that the brothers were the two men who
married the Wolfe sisters, Evan and John Carmack. Of course, we now
know that isn't correct, but has anyone else heard that story in their
Carmack line? Just curious.
I've also been doing some historical research about the times and places
where these people were and for anyone who is interested, the first few
chapters of the book "Maryland-A History" by Carl Bode is really
interesting.
